My Rheumatologist ran a bunch of tests, I have a positive ANA 1:20480, CRP 1.01 But what I hope someone can answer for me is a question about my CBC and sed rate. The lab report says that the cbc and sed rate was cancelled after 16:2 lapse of time because the sample clotted. What does that mean and is it aproblem? Also, can anyone tell me what an ANA titre...

I recently took over a very small lab. This is my first lab manager experience. The week after I started, I found out there was a new hematology instrument in the storeroom that had a 30 day evaluation period and the clock was ticking. I could use some advice on how to compare the old and new methods. We only run about 5 samples a day. I've collected...

Anyone have experience with this instrument (Abbott Sapphire )? The inclussion of a flouresent flow cytometry leds itself to CD markers, true NRBC and possible fetal Hgb determination. Looks like all manufacture's will be going this way in the future (Sysmex probably already has?). I have seen one trauma center with two of these instruments and was...

I'm wondering at what point you think it is appropriate to spin down a CBC and replace the plasma with NaCL or isoton. I've got a patient with Hgb of 19, but MCH, MCHC and MCV are normal. Does anyone have an SOP regarding this? Is it even allowed under CAP? Thanks

Aspirin thins out the blood, I understand. Here's something of an explanation: * askascientist.binghamton.edu/may-jun/18may06ask.html This says that Aspirin is a platelet aggregation inhibitor. But is the viscosity of blood different when aspirin is in the blood? Does aspirin-blood go through small tubes, say syringe needles, more easily? Is it easier...

Hi, So suppose you have a physician who places a lab order, say Electrolytes. This consists of 4 tests (and perhaps a calculated one). Nurse draws blood, places specimen in a container which goes to the lab, tests are done, results reported. But what are the rules that orders generate the need for more than one container. Perhaps so many tests that...
