Does anyone have any experience with Forteo? It's been prescribed for me and I am wary.

"Omega-3 fatty acids linked to denser bones in men", Reuters UK, March 22, 2007, Link: http://uk.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUKCOL26470020070322 Omega-3 fatty acids may help build young men's bone strength, research hints. In the study, men who had the highest levels of omega-3s in their blood as 22-year-olds showed the greatest bone mineral density,...

Okay, she's a (((LITTLE))) past her prime to be a MILF (mother I'd like to fuck), but don't you think she makes a pretty good GILF (grandmother I'd like to fuck)? I do. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=milf http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/MILF For those of you who don't know, I'm talking about the actress from all the Actonel TV commercials....

When the drug pushers are trying to scare us into taking one of their drugs, they cite *relative* risk of some undesirable event happening if we don't take their magic molecule. But it's very hard - not impossible - to find the *absolute* risk. If the odds of an event like a fracture increase from one in a thousand to two in a thousand, mathematically,...

This page, http://www.womentowomen.com/bonehealth/osteoporosis.asp, makes two points: 1. New bone is denser and more flexible. 2. Osteoblasts come into play only after osteoclasts remove old bone. If that's the case, the whole strategy of inhibiting osteoclasts with Fosamax or any other similar drug seems flawed. Wouldn't you be left with a bunch...

Regarding the notion of denser bones being better regarding fracture risk: Imagine dropping an ordinary #2 pencil (or a drinking straw) and a glass rod of identical size from a height of, say, eight feet onto concrete? Which is going to break: the dense rod or the pencil (or straw)? I dropped that thought on my endocrinologist the other day. She mumbled...

When walking as a weight-bearing exercise, it would seem better to use a shoe that does NOT cushion the heel too much. That way, the shock each time we land on the heel would be greater, and so would be the bone-building result. Of course, other parts of the shoe - arch support - remain important. Any comments? Ray

I'm a 60 year old male, recently diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism, which apparently has been slowly disolving my bones for a few years. A DEXA bone density scan gave T-scores of -2.2, -1.2, -2.6 for spine, hip and forearm respectively. The report included the statement "Ensure fall prevention measures are in place", but I suspect this is just boilerplate....

My MD is taking me off Fosamax next year as I have been on it for 5 years. My next bone density test is 2008. My scores have improved with it, and calcium + D, exercising, and hand weights for the last 3 years. Does a preventive medicine come next? shirleyann
