Hi, I'm looking for first-hand information (e.g. from orthopedist or a patient) concerning internal fixators (those that recide in the bone) used for limb lengthening. Web links are also welcome. Thanks Ed

ER just gave a prednisone script. Should I start PT immediately? It's been 3 days and no improvement. Wonder if I should see a chiropracter first before PT?

I am 60 years old. I am a right hand person. Around 6 months ago, my left middle finger¡¯s middle joint and bottom joint around the knuckle areas got painful, particularly in the morning. When I tried to flex my middle finger, I can feel the joint is bouncing back and fore like a toggle switch. In particular, my middle finger cannot fold back...

I'm interested in finding a source of used photo-optic probes for nonmedical use. My budget being somewhat limited, it came to mind that medical centers, research centers, and orthopaedic drs, in their periodic upgrading of orthoscopic camera equipment, may either sell or donate their older equipment rather than simply trashing it. Does anyone...

I had a total knee replacement in May 2007. I have swelling and don't have full extension of the knee. My surgeon tells me that I have scar tissue wrapped around the patella. He is very concerned about this and doesn't understand how it formed as I was totally committed to my recovery. For the first two months, I had a physical therapist that caused...

I had a Total Hip Replacement in March 2007. Recovery went extremely well for the first few weeks, then the hip 'locked'. I managed to shove it back, but it happened several times again. X-rays showed the hip to remain in proper position. Also after the first month, I experienced a grinding in the hip. It was temporary, but it left inflamation...

Hello I've heard of a new and very successful orthesis for patients with gross valgus deformity of the foot as a result of tibialis posterior tendon failure, where surgery is not appropriate. It involves the use of a lower leg brace (beginning just below the knee) attached and hinged to an ankle stabilizer. A patient-specific insole is inserted into the...

The heels of my shoes wear down something fierce and quickly. This is due to Charcot Marie Tooth disease, http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org. Not diabetic neuropathy. I'm in Seattle & get mine from Shane's. They build up the heels but it's not working well enough. Does anyone know anyplace else near here who reinforces or adjusts shoes? A pedorthist...

Six years ago I had total knee arthroplasty of both knees using the then current Charnley prostheses. Whilst completely successful in removing the pain of osteoarthritis, the procedure has left me with knees which bend to no more than 95 degrees (left knee) and 120 degrees (right knee), which means I have great difficulty getting up from a fall, or out of...

A week ago, I was simply getting out of my car, and immediately discovered that I could not bend over without severe back pain. Ever since then, my symptoms have never been constant. The pain would go away at night, but my back would be so stiff and hurting when I woke up that I could barely move. After a few days, I started feeling discomfort in my...

Can anyone differentiate between these two views? They appear to be the same, sort of AP spot views, except the Ferguson is centered more inferior for the SI and the Hibbs for the L5-S1. We'd appreciate any online references also. Thanks in advance.

About a month ago, I had a surgery reattaching my bicep tendon to my elbow bone (two incision method). I was in a cast for about two weeks. I started therapy one week after my cast was removed. During my first session, I could really feel the pressure when the therapist stretched my muscles by bending my hand up and down at my wrist. As soon as the therapist...

I need a walker. My HMO's DME company provides horrible service and can't figure out who should fix the brakes on the Nova walker that they sold me. They stopped repairing them; they just sell them. I live in Seattle and don't care about the insurance, yet. I just need some names of reputable and reliable vendors. Thanks.
