Just plugged a couple holes in a client's house that were drilled by a perhaps overzealous plumber installing an external tankless water heater; they left two big holes in the siding. Plugged them nicely with conical wooden plugs, but of course there was some tear-out, so there are some rather large divots that need to be filled. With what is the question:...

I'm in the midwest US and looking to replace my aluminum windows with vinyl custom-made argon low-e. I don't know pricing - can anyone help with a guesstimate on window price with installation for a roughly 4' x 4' opening ? Remove the old aluminum, haul it away, install new custom-sized vinyl and caulk it. Or, if you have specifics - a custom vinyl...

Discussion recently someone claimed to have used a 40 US gallon electric hot water tank to heat a small living space by piping its output to a couple of radiators or hydro baseboards. It was AIUI a converted single bedroom cabin? Presumably the hot water heater (tank) would have two 3000 watt elements. So 6000 watts would provide approx. 18,000 BTU or...

I just started using a Craftsman II "30ne Plus" lawn mower, which was made roughly a dozen years ago. There is no control lever/cable for choke or throttle. There is a lever on the body, for throttle. Near to that is some device: it has a soft black rubber covering which is hollow, and shaped approximately like a 1" inverted cup. There is a small hole...

Hello, A small area of my driveway in front of the garage has a raised area that actually slopes slightly toward the garage. The result, of course, is that water enters under the garage door and pools in the garage. Using a level, I found the area on the drivaeway that slopes inward. It's about 1 ft. wide and maybe 1.5 ft long. Anyway, my first thought...

My house, late 80s Florida construction, has a continuous vented soffit made out of screen between two boards which are like Hardie; but not. Harie Board seems closer to 1/4" but this stuff in my soffit is more like 1/2". It's 7-7/8" wide and seems made of some pressed wood with the faux woodgrain finish. A small leak caused by the satellite dish caused...

We live in a six-unit coop apartment building with an oil-fired boiler which supplies radiator heat throughout the building. We installed a new boiler in 2006 at a cost of $28,000. At the time we considered switching from oil to gas, but were told that we likely would have to run new gas supply lines from the street to the building, and this could...
