Picture two roofs – a major and minor – with the minor 1/3 the size of the major T-boning into the major at the middle on one side only. The space between the roof and ceiling of the minor is about 200 cubic yards; too small to move air with a gable fan according to several supply houses I’ve called. The problem may be caused by the fact that the...

A friend is under a citation from our State Lic Board here in California. He had a contract with a homeowner that provided for progress payments, she didn't make them, so he abandoned the job. It is all in his contract, and agreed to by both parties. Now the license board is saying that he has no legal right to abandon the job, even if she didn't make...

Hi, I'm a contractor looking to become a small volume home builder in NY. I have a lot of good subcontractors, family looking to invest, a mortgage broker in the family, a bachelor's degree in accounting, and a willingness to educate myself as much as necessary. This is something I've wanted to do for years, but unforseen circumstances are pushing me...

Since I live just north of Seattle, the winter temperature rarely dips below forty degrees. And - since ground source heat pumps are more expensive then regular heat pumps would it make more sense to install a regular heat pump. I have propane heat now and could use that as a backup for cold snaps, but the price of propane is now sky-high. Thanks, RO --...

Need some seasoned veteran response. My daughter's companion/boyfriend contracts homebuilding for a living. A day or 2 ago, she told me about his latest project. He's doing fixer-upper on a burned out home. She says alot of the walls are still standing, and sheetrock is intact on many of the walls. That's all she knows for now, she says. This...

In searching all over the country (U.S.A.) for cement tile like I had seen in Europe and Latin American countries, I realized that it has not been made here since the 30's or 40's, ever since the population went wild for the new linoleum that was the craze. When I finally did find some cement tile , called mosaicos hidraulicos most places) the colors were...

Most websites say to nail the boards in the centre only and the battens through the space between the boards. All the people I've seen put up board and batten nailed the boards on the edges, then again through the edges when putting on the battens Which is better? I have 1/2 inch white pine, 8 inched wide. Located in North Bay Ontario, Canada (three hours...
