I'm looking at putting a shed in my garden - it would be located on an existing concrete hardstanding area which slopes approx 1 in 10. The shed will probably be about 6' x 4'. What's the best support for the shead base at the downhill end? I'd rather not construct a level concrete foundation & am wondering whether it could be supported on cinder blocks...

I am looking for a quality rss feed for a supplier of building materials. Their focus is on the professional contractor. Current relevant content would include anything related to Fannie Mae, lumber prices, foreclosures, overall US economy. This company is located in eastern NC, USA, any rss feed very relevant to this area would be great. Of course low cost...

Pickens plan is right, but first we got to stop this theft so that we can renovate homes, rebuild, install solar and turbines, etc.: Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are worth 5 trillion dollars long term ,the fight in Congres about them is about control of the assets in them, the neocons are trying to grab it, study the issue and do your own thinking, it can...

Hello All: I have a friend who is a general contractor. He uses yellow pages and mail to advertise his business here in San Francisco Bay Area. I suggested using Google ads. He wants to make sure it would be effective. Anybody out there with any experience? Thanks! Deguza

I'm receiving conflicting 'information' on painting fiber cement siding. I have info from tech rep & web site each of two manufacturers. The question is whether or not to back prime fiber cement siding. Has anyone any experience? T

Am in the sf bay area and had Petersen Dean give me a proposal on my roof. I am considering using them Looking for comments and feedback about the company and their work. I read a few bad things about them on bay area consumers web site but that was from about 12 years ago. Below is what I found; both posts are from the same person: On...

One of the things that AmerLink & In The Woods does is educate the customer. It’s unfortunate that a lot of companies do not make the effort to do this, no matter what the product or service offered. And for anyone just diving into their research of building their own log home, it can be a very intimidating and confusing process simply because not all...

I have built a deck on an existing roof and it's too noisy below because the roof is too bouncy. I want to run a span of steel over the roof without touching it and put my deck on the steel span. The steel will span 28' and support only itself and the floorboards with max 4 people. The railings are already sitting on the roof so the steel won't support them....

I am looking into having a 6' masonry fence constructed (about 50'). I had one contractor come out, take notes, called me the next day with his estimate. I ask him for a copy of his write up. Guy says, call around, get more bids, when you're ready to really move forward, I'll type up a formal estimate with a breakdown of all the work & material...

I'm putting together my gameplan for building (actually rebuilding) a small shed for the yard. It's going to be a 10' x 16' saltbox. I have a couple of questions I was hoping someone could help me with. First, on of the 16' walls will be partially below grade (the shed is going to be built into a small slope) so I plan to use pressure treated sheathing...
