Ok, our 40 gal gas water heater is failing. About 10 years old, which I hear is ok. But every time I talk to someone about their 40 gal water heater, they all complain that they run out of hot water (comparable size homes and kids). Bur our builder (and all builder's we spoke to when looking to build) *insist* that 40 gallons is enough. But...

Found these among my 1/4-inch driver bits. Tried to use them for #2 phillips screws and snapped off a couple. What are these for? Thanks, FBt

Have been putting this off for 2 years now. Getting a bit expensive due to heating and AC bills. The house has no skirt around the pier and beam perimeter. Getting bids now over the next week or 2 from contractors. Basically, other than the obvious affect on heating and AC bills, an insurance company that I want to go to requires a masonary type skirt...

I am working on a Geodesic Dome Re-Roof. I did the construction several years ago to 2 attached buildings. (both vented with cora ridge and doing fine) The Geodesic Dome is nasty.....There is no ventilation in the traingle shapes... . it was insulated with standard batt insulation and sheetrocked interior......No place for the water vapor to vent..... The...

I'm thinking about building a homemade rig for small batch concrete jobs- something that would rotate a 5-gallon bucket would be fine (nice and compact, and if needed I can just dump the bucket and start mixing the next bucket). I particularly like the idea of an easy cleanup, where I can just rinse the bucket instead of hauling a whole mixing rig to...

I would like to open up a basement by removing a 2x6 stud wall and replace it with a wood laminated beam ( 2x10's or 12's) where can I get some info on the proper size and min opening between supports. It's a 2 story house and 12' joist span at existing wall. Thanks Dave

No bluster. But just today after 20 e-mails and a dozen phone calls did they finally say they were coming to look it over. It is 4:30PM CST and still no show. I cancelled my appointments with my customers to wait for these folks. (I guess a little bluster) I am an Electrician and it cost me a few bucks to ignore a couple of service calls and pass them...

I'm constructing a room in the crawl space of my house, that will be used in part for a home theather, and I want to make it as soundproof as possible. This room will have one 5040 window. Home Depot tells me that they can supply windows that have 3/16" or 1/4" thick panes, as opposed to the normal 1/8". I'm wondering if any one has experience or information...
