Hi, My bathroom ceiling above the shower is moldy and the paint is bubbling. I would like to tile the whole ceiling and walls. Can I install directly on the painted ceiling? What do I need to do to prep the existing so that the tiles dont fall off? Sand the surface or cover with 1/4" tile board? There is a ceiling exhaust fan but it still gets moldy. ##-----------------------------------------------## Delivered...

I'm building a new house and want to incorporate money saving ideas into it. First, I like the concept of natural gas tankless water heaters. Second, I hate throwing water away waiting for the hot stuff to arrive. So, is it possible to put in a recirculating pump from the fixture to the cold line that would be triggered by a motion sensor in the bathroom? If...

what is the "customary", or "typical" procedure a homeowner would take when doing a project as a basement finishing, or remodel of say a wooden deck, or perhaps adding a room ? specifically, say Joe Public, calls up several contractors for quotes. they all survey the job, and write up their bids. question - what level of detail should those bids...

We've got a rectangular carport overhang which has become waterlogged and decayed. I would like to know the best way to replace a long span of Trilam which is about to snap. The overhang is 25' X 22', supported on 4 posts at the corners and is additionally anchored to the adjoining house. The rotted Trilam is 25' long and extends perpendicularly...

Building a new house and want a standing seam metal roof. Need help determining how is should be constructed. Material is 22 ga. Above the rafters, one roofing guy says radiant barrier OSB, 30# felt paper, metal. Another wants to put the metal on 1" x 3" lath. Nothing else. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Dick

I have a patio over my garage which is a concrete slab. What should I use to seal it so when it rains it doesn't also rain in the garage? Being a patio I need to walk on it. Thank you Tony

Heat technolgy with verve. Since more than 30 years - water-bearing chimney boilers. As the costs for energy explode and the responsibility for everyone towards the environment becomes clearer day by day, it is time to draw the consequences. And to decide for a heat system that - technically mature and approved in many cases - united any advantage of modern heat...

The precast step on this 35 year old house finally gave way. I am going to pour its replacement. There are two cantilevered supports from the house foundation on which the old step sat. Can I just build my forms outside these and have them encased in the new concrete? Does there need to be a slight buffer between the step and the foundation, or can the concrete...

There was a person I was speaking to recently who was proud of what he considered to be a very bright move on his part. He had noticed that the lolly-columns in his basement had been filled with cement prior to being used. He assumed that the strength of the support was in the cement, and therefore concluded it was a good idea to try filling PVC...

Cannot find the old messages from those who posted to my original post. Specifically the one from the fellow who referenced "portland cement.org" or other iteration. I am sorry to be a pest about an older issue but they now have passed on the responsibility to the finisher. I doubt he has the resources to resolve this as I have been told the only way...
