wanting to lay tubing in my basement/sunroom slab so that one day when i can afford it, we can have radiant heated floors. the basement is basically 1200 square feet- so i'm wondering what the layout of the tubing should be (squares, or long and marrow strips...), and how long each loop can be... any brilliant insight is appreciated

Please excuse for my lack of technical English here. In a building which is 15 meters wide, which is declared as being able to bear 500Kg per square meter, I suppose that this value refers to the center of the building, right? If we want to put heavy weights within 2.5 meters from the side of the building (which is where beams are sustained, by external...

Why are bathroom exhaust fans mounted in the ceiling? Wouldn't down low next to the toilet be a better location? Maybe even lower than the toilet and behind the toilet. Then the "smell" would go down and back instead of forward and up!

If anyone has ever built a house without a builder, just directly hiring subs and what was the experience like good and bad?

Good morning. I appear to have an electrical bonding problem with my plumbing. I am measuring 60VAC between my kitchen faucet and the kitchen drain fitter. The problem became evident when I replaced the old PVC drain trap with a shiny, new metal trap. Goodbye, insulator. Hello, tingle. Further investigation reveals that the kitchen sewer drop is not...

I'm moving my hot tub to ground level and, after looking for deck designs, found an interesting one. This was proposed way back in 2000 on one of these newsgroups, but no comments and the poster is no longer reachable through email. So I thought to re-propose here for comments. This design takes into account the weight distribution of a hot tub. The weight...

With my trusty studfinder I located a 2x10 mounted flat against the drywall about 4-5 feet off the floor about the fireplace in this condo. Studs were 16 in on center above and below but then there is this sandwich of a 2x10, 1/2" MSB and another 2x10. I ended up mounting the flat screen above into the studs but really wanted to go where this goofy...

Good afternoon. I am trying to clean and reinstall the filter on an older-model downflow furnace. I opened the access panel for the intake plenum, and found a pair of (very dirty) washable type filters that had fallen inside the furnace. So much for filtering efficiency. The plenum opening is roughly 17" x 17". There are a pair of filter elements,...

I have a new room that I'm doing. I am going to put one of those floating floors in this room. The drywall has not been put on the wall yet. Should I raise the drywall off the floor about 1/2 inch or sit it right on the sub-floor. I was wondering about the gap that is left on the perimeter of the floating floor. I'll run molding around the room when...
