"PurJava is a top pick according to Phil Lempert of NBC's Today Show Brewing a great cup of coffee can be a very frustrating experience. It's truly both an art and a science. Finding the right coffee beans, storing them properly, grinding them correctly, and using just the right brewing device is all part of the task. I finally replaced my Starbucks Barista grinder with a Rancilio Rocky. The Starbucks, I see, is now being marketed as the Saeco Titen Coffee Bean Burr Grinder at Costco for far less than I paid for it at Starbucks on sale six years ago. I'm confused because I knew it to be a Solis machine and it has now resurfaced as a Saeco. Anyway, it did an ok...

I've been playing around after populating a (test) database with news articles (I think it was 2005 when I first mentioned I was planning on finding that particular round tuit) and have been comparing and relating all sorts of data. Here's a comparison that struck me as almost dramatic. How many distinct From addresses were used to post to alt.coffee...

So I've gone and bought some illy beans today - happens once in a blue moon. And every time, I wonder how fresh they'll be. The tin says expiry is 12/2009. I'd like to know the number of months I have to subtract from that to find the roast date. It's now 6/2008, so I guess N is at least 18 months. Anyone know straight off? Or maybe if someone has some...

Hi folks, I'm curious to learn what specific things you think European cafes that you have been to have done right or wrong, and what cafes in the USA you've been to have done right or wrong. It occurs to me that the only chance for improvement in the USA is for a free exchange of ideas on this matter, if American cafe/coffeehouse owners are reading this...

I had bloodwork done at the dr office mon, my LDL was 90 compared to 92 last May, my triglycerides were 104 compared to 76 last May. I have been drinking more press pot coffee lately. I may cut back from 28 oz to 20 oz even tho both cafestol and kahweol may prevent cancer.

Hello, I've been browsing this group for some time and finally have a question to post. Does anyone have any experience with the Francis Francis X5 espresso machine? I'm considering purchasing one and would like to hear the experiences of others who own, or have owned it. TIA!

I have just recently started having a problem with the basket falling out of my portafilter. I have two... one naked, one regular. The regular one has the problem but the naked one does not. This leads me to believe it is an issue with the handle and not the basket. Everything was fine until yesterday when I knocked the puck out and the basket went with...

Standing in the roast room this morning getting ready to light up a session when one of the staff came back and said there were a couple of ladies from one of the local churches who wanted to drop off a thank you note for coffee we had contributed to a womens conference. They came back and were effusive in how great the coffee was and what a hit and so forth....
