The state cigarette tax increases taking place nation wide are getting ridiculous. The state politions have found an easy way to raise money for their pet projects. So called pork barrel spending is not only a national level political problem, but a state level problem as well. The tax is supposed to be used to fund education here in Texas where I live....

I have been buying cigars for years on the web just like most of us and my problem has always been I'm either forced to buy a box or buy a 5-pack of pre-selected cigars by the site. I just came across this new site that was recommended by a good friend. The site is w w w .bigchiefcigars . com . They promote themselves as a 'virtual cigar store' and they really...

SAG Imports has been told that they will no longer be the distributors of Joya de Nicaragua Cigars. Tabacos Puros de Nicaragua will end the relationship as of April 25, 2008. No US Distributor has been named publicly as of yet to follow SAG. In my opinion there will be a shortage of JdN cigars while the new distribution channel is created. It remains...

This will be a short one. It tastes almost exactly like the regular Antano line. It is strong, bold and earthy with no bite on its long finish. The difference is so small that I cannot see spending the extra money ($2-$4 per stick more). Do I need to say anything other than don't bother, just buy the regular Antano? Wingman "When you find yourself...

I usually do not care for small ring gauge cigars so this one had a strike on it before I began. The Series V is very hard to get. Nearly everyone is sold out. When Cigar Afficionado rated it so highly they created a run on the product. I had to pay a premium to my distributor just to get the Lanceros. But.. . it was worth it. It is a strong cigar, med-full...

OK, here's the first of 3 opinions of cigars that I have just added to the shop. The 601 Green label Perfecto jumped right into my regular rotation with my first draw. It is big and bold with subtle spice on the finish. It carries a strong Nicaraguan flavor from beginning to end. The only negative was one customer had one burn VERY unevenly while smoking...

We'll have to let Misc tell us about the origins of these cigars, but I just smoked one so I'll tell y'all what I can. Misc says that the "Hatuey" line comes from a small shop in Reno (NV, I suppose) and sent me one to help me judge the contest. And "Hatuey" is the name of an Indian tribe. It's a new one on me, but maybe Misc can enlighten us. It...

Short version: Alex wins (barely) and I'm keeping some of the bribes. I post, with permission, the entries below. It's an interesting list. Long version: OK, this was way too much work. Next time, I'm just going for the shameless mooch (after I study all y'all's techniques for a couple months.) Meanwhile, here's what the 5 contestants sent: Entries: Cigar...

Bought two boxes of Mayorga "everyday" (lawnmower) smokes from JR recently - got a bag of Mayorga coffee beans with each box (they weren't part of my buying decision). Have tried 3 pots so far. Do NOT like it. If you are a fan of Mayorga coffee, send your snaily to: pauld1943 at yahoo . com This won't be "first-come-first-served". I reserve the...

WOW! So I just heard this and apparently the news has been out there for a month or so, but the Davidoff Millenium line will now have a lancero. You can already order them online at a few retailers, but the B&Ms are getting them slowly. My retailer friend in Houston with a Davidoff account hasn't gotten them in yet but will let me know when he does....

So I'll be in Vancouver this summer, and I'd like some advice on the best places to get Cuban brands while I'm there. I know there's a Habanos shop, but I've also heard of some other good places. I'll be down by the pier, but I think most of the shops are downtown anyway so travel is not a problem. Any advice would be most appreciated.

Picked one up as a single at a smoke shop in Savannah. I had come to expect little from this brand. Pleasantly surprised. Worked it to the nub, nice burn and flavorful all the way. Maybe even a box buy.
