* w w w .thelocal.de/13007/20080711/ Subject pretty much says it all, but note this quote: "Bars and restaurants across the country have been reporting decreased revenues due to the smoking ban" Once again, the reality of smoking bans is that it adversely affects private businesses - but as some aunties here have repeatedly pointed out, they...

McCain jokes about 'killing' Iranians by getting them addicted to smoking.» Last year, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) joked about bombing Iran to the theme of the Beach Boy's "Barbara Ann." McCain was widely criticized for the remark, but simply told critics to "lighten up and get a life." The Washington Post notes that McCain tried joking about "killing" Iranians...

Tonight, as I read today's Philadelphia Daily news over dinner at a Wegmans' cafe, I found two items of interest to smokers. First, there was a brief column about how the FDA is reevaluating the method used to test how much nicotine, smokers ingest from different kinds of cigarettes. The current method dates back to the 1930's. The FDA feels its testing...

It is well established that the sense of smell of the typical smoker is diminished. We non-smokers have our own built-in smoke detector because when a fire erupts in our home or office, we can often smell it before a smoke detector alerts us to it. This is not true with nicotine addicts; since their sense of smell is damaged, they depend more on smoke...

Well, now. It seems BIRTH is the biggest cause of death worldwide with upwards of 56,597,034 people dying sometime after birth each year. Interesting mortality statistics for the United States. Of the 2,400,000-plus Americans who die each year, over 45,000 are killed in transport accidents. The number of homicides, poisonings, and drunk driving fatalities...

Hey nicotine addicts, what do you do about your smoke detectors at home? Doesn't your tobacco spew set off your smoke detectors? The thing is, nicotine addicts would probably be slower to smell a fire then non-smokers because their olfactory sense is diminished, so you need a smoke detecter, but doesn't you set it off when you smoke? good night

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit challenging Tennessee's indoor smoking ban and a hike in the state's cigarette tax. U.S. District Judge Curtis L. Collier in Chattanooga found Monday that there was no basis for the lawsuit against Gov. Phil Bredesen and the Tennessee General Assembly. The state last year increased...

Just took a brisk walk down to the shopping area to see for myself if the two liquor stores are open today. They are. One opened at ten, the other at eleven. Both close at six. It's the first time since Prohibition repeal (75 years) that's happened. I wanted to see history made firsthand. There was some grumbling about Sunday being their day of rest...

Any newsgroup, any subject, any piece of trivial, mindless, useless, ridiculous, mundane, gratuitous, and monotonous stupidity, our resident net, web, and newsgroup addict will be there with his candy- ass Martha Stewart input and wispy advice. This is the silly pea-brain who sticks his delicate nose into the business of smokers and accuses THEM of being...

Greetings everyone; With tomorrow being July 4th, I want to wish each of you who celebrates America's independence a great holiday. Although Independence Day is intended to commemorate America's independence from the British government, July 4th, 2008 could also be the day where you nicotine addicts start on the path toward being independent of tobacco...
