"Nicotine helps (addicts) get through the day," he said. "Now you take the nicotine away from us, it's almost impossible to get through the day ... addiction is addiction, I understand that, but nicotine is a legal substance." "I look forward to my every cigarette that I smoke," Lapsker said. "That's what gets me through the day, through the stress, through...

Maryland's smoking ban, enacted in May 2007 and effective February this year, has a provision that grants waivers to bars if after two months smokefree they can demonstrate a 15% loss of sales. (Not 30% which is the tobacco-industry lie). The waiver is good for three years. If, as Robert has maintained here so often, bars are hurt by smoking bans, one...

He smiles, turns half away from me and starts cleaning up and rearranging his instruments. "Okay," he says. "Do you smoke?" I admit that I do. "Don't," he informs me. "Hold off as long as you can. No pointy foods. No nachos." He continues on. The list of don'ts is brief but fairly conclusive. No booze, no hot beverages, no cigarettes -- my three-legged...

Last Sunday, I had a nice lunch and walk in Old City, Philadelphia with a friend. We started out with the goal of eating at a Burmese restaurant for something different. We both parked our cars one mile away from the restaurant so we had an excuse to do some walking and talk. Unfortunately, the Burmese restaurant went out of business, so we ended up...
