Considering buying a Mesa Boogie 5:25 amp, based on what I'm seeing/hearing online. I know that's lame, but I live in a rural area where I can't drive to a Guitar Center down the road to check one out. I also realize I'll have to do just that to pick one up, so thought I'd ask others what their thoughts are before making the hike. The reviews/etc are...

I have a 1989 JCM 800 2205. The overdrive channel rocks, but the "clean channel" starts to break up if I get the volume knob anywhere past 9:00 position. As you can guess, that means it is barely on (off being at about 7:00). The problem, of course, is matching the volume between my clean sound to my high-gain channel. I have to turn down the volume...

Hi Lord Valve, I just started reading Daniel Levitin's book, "This is Your Brain on Music" and in the introduction he says that in his college days he listened to music at such high volumes that: "I actually set my loudspeakers on fire by cranking the volume too high." Is this hyperbole, or can this really happen? Thanks.
