My daughter's school is offering guitar lessons and she wants to take them up. I got the flyer today and it says that she will need access to a nylon string or folk guitar and that she will be learning guitar chords and music notation on the treble clef. As I have no idea of what any of this means I am hoping that someone may be able to give me some...

Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting my guitar restrung because these strings are getting kind of old. But, I haven't been able to decide on a string gauge. I know that lighter gauge strings make fretting, sliding, and bending easier, which is good since I'm a soloist. On the other hand, lower gauge strings have a better tone and are less prone to breakage. I'm...

http://the-cheap-music-downloads.blogspot.com, Music download sites are more popular than ever. What used to be an illegal act has made its way to the legal side. Music download sites are easy to access and most are quite easy to use. With today's advanced technology, downloading music has never been easier. Many of the music download sites have nearly a...

The main frustration I found with this was working out the settings in the face of a useless manual. This site gives a good run down of all the settings: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jim.press/guitar.html I'm still working on presets, currently the Fender twin, pretty good if you want a really bright setting with decent harmonics. Usual disclaimer...

I met one of the other dads at my son's Boy Scout meeting last week, and he's also a guitar newbie. But the big difference is he's spending lots of money on the hobby. Not just gear, but instructional materials. So he loaned me this DVD, and I learned more from it in a weekend than I've learned in the 2-3 months since I started. Jamie Humphries is...

I love it! I played with it for hours today. I'm sure that it's just my inexperience with guitar, but for $50, this thing seems amazing. And I didn't know about the online component to the software. You can download songs and backing tracks, and it will load the guitar tones that go with the song. That part is only free for one month, then there's...

The ascending minor second interval C-C#, (e.g., third string fifth fret, second string second fret) sounds dissonant. To me, it sounds more dissonant than the ascending interval C-F# (tritone, which wants to resolve to the G note). Why is the tritone considered the most dissonant interval? And where does the ascending minor second interval C-C#...

I wonder if you don't get a better connection between string and neck, ie better sustain, with a nut. A zero fret is like a nut with very little downward turn to the strings on the tuner side, so very little string pressure. Paul P

Rivera amps have an "effects patch loop." What is that? Is it where you plug an effects pedal cord into the amp?
