At last, something *finished*. (I think.) As I look through a songbook I bought, I see some chords described as C/G or F/G or F/C. No doubt there are several of them and they all seem clumsy to play. How do you refer to them when you speak to another musician? Is it "see slash gee" or "see gee" or is some other way to put it? Is there an internet reference that goes into some detail with...

I usually buy my guitars online because they are much less expensive than retail stores. Also I have to drive quite a distance to get to a guitar store. Being rather new to guitars, I am never sure if they are playing optimally. Just to be safe, should I have all new guitars undergo a setup by a professional luthier? If so, how can I be sure that...

Learning a guitar chord can be pretty tricky if you go about it the wrong way. Learning anything on guitar can be made a lot easier with the right approach, so I have compiled a list of tips to help you learn guitar chords. Learn Guitar Chord Tip 1:Learn chords two or three at a time. It's all very good learning how to play just one chord, but when it's...

Most people who have been playing in bands have tube amps. The other guitar player in my band has a ss Fender amp that sounds terrible. So he brought his tube amp to rehearsal. Pignose 60 watt. Pretty cool looking. This is one horrible sounding amp. It hums and hisses, is way too bright, Distorts badly. He insists on using it. We had a recording session...

I am interested in studying jazz guitar. I heard that the Ibanez Artcore AF75 is a very good hollow body for around $400. Anyone have any experience/knowledge about this guitar? Thanks. Mike

The age old question - solid state or valve? Have modelling amps reached the point where they effectively mimic true valve characteristics convincingly???

Today I went to Guitar Center and tried out the Line 6 Spider III Combo Amp. I think it was advertised as 150 watts. It had two 12" speakers. I plugged in and started playing it in the clean mode with the volume low. Suddenly it switched - all by itself - to the metal mode and the volume sounded like it was full blast with ear splitting feedback. ...

My wife gave me a guitar as an early birthday present this year (woo- hoo! well, almost). I played it for a couple of hours out of the box, and I loved it. The strings were a bit skanky from sitting in the showroom, so I changed them using a set of .012-.054 80/20 bronze that I had on hand. I think that the ones that were on the guitar originally were...

Hi, I really like the relic guitars that are popular at the moment, but because they cost a small fortune I thought I might have a go at doing one myself. I was wondering if anyone has had a go and if they could give me some tips. The guitar i am going to use is a cheap Telecaster. The 2 main things I am interested in is firstly, how to get the worn...

I am using the software "GNU Solgefe" for ear training development. I started with a basic exercise (Software plays an ascending melodic interval and I must choose whether it's a perfect fourth or perfect fifth). I was having trouble distinguishing a fourth from a fifth. Then, I related the ascending melodic interval perfect fourth to the song "Amazing...

Has anyone here purchased Desi Serna's Books and/or DVD's? If so, what do you think of them?

Saw Ronnie Earl tonight in Shirley, Mass. WOW! If you ever get a chance to see Ronnie Earl live, do it! Great show from beginning to end. Mostly smokin' hot blues with some jazz, one gospel and even a piano boogie woogie that Ronnie sat out. My ten year old son got to shake his hand and got a pick. Really nice guy. Patrick
