I want to change strings on my guitar from 10,13,17,30,42,52 to heavier strings. My next set will be 11-54 gauge and I have been told that my guitar will not have a problem with the string tension. ( I hope I can fair as well :) ) Eventually I would like to try even heavier strings, but I'm a bit concerned about maybe damaging my guitar.... Are there...

Hi everyone, I'd like to ask a general question about how to best transition from one chord to the next chord. I had started another topic here a few days about how to finger a G major open chord after playing an open D7 chord. Yesterday evening I was practicing switching back and forth between the chords in question, and I decided to try one of the...

Do you use strictly the classical position of holding the guitar? The thumb behind the neck? Or is it OK to move the thumb around a little bit? I've read/seen both methods; the baseball bat method of holding the guitar and the classical method. From what I've read, the classical method is superior, but I have trouble keeping it 100% classical. My thumb...

I like using a small amount of baby oil on each fingertip of my left hand.....it keeps my playing very smooth. I'm thinking that.....if its safe to put on a baby then it shouldn't cause damage to the fingerboard? RD

I am trying to improve my playing by using a lesson package I purchased online. The next section is on pentatonic scales - the foundation of soloing. It looks very challenging to learn and memorize all the pentatonic forms up and down the fretboard. My question is this. I mainly accompany vocals and play chord melodies. I never have occasion to...

Pop music songs will typically be in 4/4 time. Eighth note count: One and Two and Three and Four and One and Two ... Beat One and Beat Three are emphasized. Beat One has more emphasis than Beat Three. Beat Three and Beat Four are not emphasized and are equally weak. Using these guides, one should be able to find Beat One of the song?

A friend wants to sell his Takamine F360S for $400. It was made in the 1990's so it is not a lawsuit model (something about Martin suing Takamine because this model mimicked one of Martin's models too closely). I heard that the lawsuit model was very good but don't know anything about the more recent F360S. Unfortunately this friend lives a little...

Hi Can anyone recommend a quality capo for acoustic (ovation) guitar? I don't want to mark the neck and there seems a HUGE range to choose from! Thanks Dennis

Over the years of practicing acoustic fingerstyle (classical), I have come to feel as if my hands are almost "muscle bound" in the fingers. Is this just my imagination or is this real? There must be some finger muscle development going on there. I am curious if any of you folks noticed the same thing as the years of playing guitar progressed. I don't...

Hi, I am having difficulty with an E Chord: (422xxx). I use my first finger to barre the A and D strings and my ring finger to fret the E string. However I nearly always end up muting the A string with my ring finger. If I bend my ring finger enough to get it out the way then my first finger always lifts and I lose the "E". Does anyone have any tips...

I want to sing along to a tune that uses the G, G7, C, and D7 chords. I have a bass voice and find that when I play a C chord in place of the "G" I can match the pitch without straining. Put another way, I must lower the pitch of the "G" note 7 semitones to match my voice. Thus the "G" chord changes to "C". What do I change the G7, C and D7 chords to...

About six weeks ago a purchased the Desi e-book on guitar theory online, but was unable to download the material successfully within the 24 hours given to do that. I am on a boat in Mexico and consequently have only intermittent internet access. Between the date of purchase and today I have sent eight (8) e-mails on 8 different days to the addresses given...

I saw some strings on Lumpy's site that were described as being for either a traditional classical or a nylon folk guitar. Can someone give me an example of a nylon folk guitar? Thanks!

Not all tube amps are good amps. Tube amps that only have pre amp tubes or only power tubes are not true tube amps. They are half solid state. Many of the newer tube amps have pcb's. They are difficult if not impossible to repair or mod. So you go out and buy an all tube amp with point to point wiring and no pcb's. What you have now is an all tube amp...
