Picked up the CMD 121P 1x12" combo today. Spent a lot of time playing them, as well as other small combos. This one was the best bang for the buck. 300/500W in the size of my 40W practice amp. Unbelievable. Except for my GK head, which I have a sentimental attachment to, I traded in or eBay-ed all my other big amps and cabs. The handtruck days are over, and...

Hey guys, I'm just finishing my packing, I head to the airport in a couple hours. I fly to Nashville via Dallas and I'm out in the woods until the 20th. I'm taking a digital camera that I almost know how to use, so hopefully I'll make it back with a bunch of fun photos to share. Last night my new trio, Atomic Gumbo(Piano / Vocals, Bass, and...

I've haven't bothered with rechargeabke batteries for years due to the fact that when I did, they didn't have any life at all under real-life heavy duty, continuous draw use (particularly my older minidisc recorder). I was wondering if nowadays there are any types available with a life comparable to ordinary alkaline batteries (Duracell, Energizer, etc.) in...

Nice set with Marcus Miller and his band on NPR's "Talk of the Nation" this morning. Here's a link to the 45+ minute interview/performance. * preview.tinyurl . com /5uj9bm He made me lol when he was discussing his concept of levels. Level one is the acquisition of musical tools and vocabulary. Level two is expertise in using those acquisitions. Level...

My nephew is taking up the bass, and I've been tasked with helping him get some equipment together in spite of the fact that I'm a keyboard player who knows very little about basses. He is 18 years old and hasn't played bass before but is a gifted musician (he's an excellent pianist and percussionist and has absolute pitch) so I don't want to get him complete...

Hi Folks, Last night at practice/rehersal we were given a song for this Sunday's service that has a decidedly celtic feel to it. I've never played bass for something like this one before (soung sounds great BTW). I was hoping if anyone had some advice on what do do other that hold the root, and walking from one chord to the next just doesn't sound right....

I just received a used bass I bought on Ebay - a Yamaha BBN4F III fretless. It is a very basic bass. Alder body, Maple neck, Rosewood fingerboard and two dual-coil pickups. It has a very comfortable neck, good overall balance. Has lightweight "T" tuners and a cast bridge instead of a piece of sheetmetal. The pickups seem to have a "hot" output because...

This would appear if you watched with out sound to be a very inefficient fretting hand technique but really it's a study in string muting. Great bass line. Also I wanted to ask if anyone has added the extra string tree to their Fender? (see bass). I have thought about it but the space looks pretty cramped. SotR * w w w .youtube . com /watch?v...

I am just speculating since I have no experience or otherwise knowledge. But I'm wondering about these new Hartke paper/aluminum cone speakers. Sounds good in theory for players wanting an "in between tone". But then again upon looking at them, the aluminum part is rather small, does it even figure in? Also, the paper and aluminum certainly react...

I know of someone selling off his bass rig, which I believe is a Basskick 707 model, along with an H-K 4x10 cab. I'm familiar with H-K primarily as a guitar amp, but as far as I know I have never heard their bass amps. Can anyone tell me anything about them, how many watts (250?), what kind of tone controls, are they reliable, what do they sound similar...

I was going through a box of Bass books in the basement late last night and found an interesting book, "30 Four-Bar Technical Finger Exercises for Electric Bass" by Peter Anthony Klapka. I think it was self-published The cool thing is the author put riffs or patterns into 4-bar long exercises so they become contextual in songs. It is mostly for the RH but...

HI all, I have been playing a Cort Artisan B4 and I am very happy with it. Before I just default into a Cort Acoustic Bass I was wondering about suggestions for other brands. This bass will be just for playing with friends in parks & such so I want something with good easy action but not very expensive either. Thanks, -Duce
