I enjoy reading this group and I have gotten some good advice on some subjects that I posted. Now, I need some advice on something that I am planning to do. First, I have played bass for many years, but the major of my time was playing with Polish Polkas in the Northeast part of Ohio. I did play for six years with an all occasion band in the 80's, but again,...

Hey folks, I'm inviting users of the guitar community to contribute articles to * w w w .thestringery . com /. The article currently on the front page, feature length, was contributed by a user. It would be neat to have an article on bass guitar techniques and playing styles. Please email me to discuss possible article ideas. I am trying to build...

I've seen reviews on H-C and the retailers, but wanted to know if anyone here is using (or has used) one of these as a dedicated preamp straight into a power amp, and if so, how you like it. I've been kicking around alternatives to add some more character to my very clean sound, and this (at $70 shipped) looks awfully good. Experienced opinions very...

I was all set to get an RE 20 for an all purpose flat response mic that would sound great on a bass cab. Then Justin Meldal-Johnsen says he just did a session with Rick Rubin and the Dixie Chicks using his '70 B-15N and a Heil PR 40 on the cab and he was blown away by it. Said it sounded like a condenser mic and compared it favorably to a Neumann Fet 47...

Do you REALLY understand the time signature system? Would you believe you are two hours away from becoming a rhythm guru? * w w w .studydrums . com /adv002.html This is so easy that nearly any drummer can understand it. What about you?

Got to enjoy the Christmas present off my wife the other night, a ticket to watch Cuban Jazz stalwarts, the Buena Vista Social Club. I swear there were three different rhythms going on in one tune - you can dance to it but counting the 'one' is another matter altogether. Apart from four relative 'youngsters' in the 13 pc line up it was guys old enough...

The studio where we're recording our album is filming a reality show on site. We were filmed and interviewed during sessions in March. This link is the trailer for the show: * w w w .youtube . com /watch?v=AjrA_g48fhc My band is thanked at the end (bottom of the screen) and our guitarist appears 38 seconds in playing his sunburst Gibson acoustic.

I have two three bass's 1- Squirer P bass with Grover's 2-Washburn AB10 acoustic 3-Cort Curbow. 1&2 seem to stay in tune if I leave it overnight 3 seems to go a little out of tune Now the Curbow is made of plastic body and fretboard wooden neck The tuners on the Curbow are a nice blue patina like the rest of the aluminum hardware and I dig...

I am trying to decide between getting a bass combo unit or a Keyboard combo unit. I have an Ibanez BTB405, I think. THis is going to be mainly for practicing at home with the wife who plays acoustic guitar. Hence the idea of a Keyboard combo as we can then both play with amplification. I am an amateurs who plays at church if they cannot find anyone else....
