have a Crate amp and am using a Rogue violin bass. please refresh my memory......what usually causes the "buzz" sound? been tweaking the dials and its still there. playing around 10 feet from amp if that matters.. is the gain usually the problem? its not real loud but I'm guessing it should not be there at all. or is a buzz always there? thx...

I have been a four banger for years, but lately I have been having thoughts of getting a 5 string. Should I give into the urge or up my medication? See I figure that 99.99999999% of all rock, blues, R&B, C&W, etc. music was played on a 4 string bass and probably 95% of those were some sort of Fender. Lately though I have been playing in strange keys...

That's it! My neck is on hell fire! I am qutting standing at the church praise band. There is really no need for me to stand anyway. I'm not singing or windmilling the bass....though if the kid in front of me does not stop squirming he's going to get a little alder on the back of his head. I know...not very Christian of me. So the question for...

I'm strugling as well. The bass has to keep an even, stedy flow, and the vocal should, IMO, be free and improvisatory, hard to make this happen, for me anyways. But then there's always: http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=-AfPa1_vOzg Check the rest of his stuff, that is, if this is not old news in thid ng. Tom K

The volume in my rehearsal room has reached a certain level, where I'm thinking of getting a set of earplugs. Do you use them - and do they take the fun out of playing? The cliche is that earplugs might be for pussies, but it's better to use them - and not having to deal with a ringing in the ears days after every rehearsal

I play bass in a church band where I am give chord charts. While listening to the original artist song I realize that sometimes the bass note is in high octave and sometimes the bass not is low octave. For a simple example let's say that the chord progression is a simple blues I, IV, V, I: A / / / D / / / E / / / A / / /. How should I make a note...

I have a 1973 Ric 4001 bass in Jetglo w/ checked binding. I got it in 1984 - then in 1986 I had a set of EMG electronic P-J pickups put in. I kept all of the original hardware and pickups (neck pickup is a toaster) and am thinking about having the original pickups put back. It sounds great now, but I kinda think the original setup would be preferable....

I play in a band (bass, obviously) - and we try to share the vocals between me and the guitarist. I'm not that experienced playing bass and singing at the same time - for some strange reason I think it's easier to sing while playing the guitar, than playing the bass. My guitarist don't agree with me ;-) Your experiences?
