I picked up an OLP Spector cheap today at a pawn shop. It was cheap enough to take a shot and it looked pretty good although it was missing a D string and had excessive bow in the neck. Anyhow, when I got it home it turned out to be functional after I stuck one of my spare strings on it. I haven't done any setup yet. Oh, it's a 5 string. That's why...

I have been playing in a newer country rock band with an excellent female singer for close to a year. She has been fantastic. Always right on and she put great emotion into her singing. Everybody loves her voice. About a month ago we updated our demo by adding some new songs and her singing was terrible to say the least. Her pitch is so far off tat it...

- Playing too fast. You have to be aware that you are not in a rest state when you play, and you have to relax the tempo or it'llallsoundlikemuchruntogethergollythisisfunwecanplaysoWHOOEEEfast. - Rushed fills. Just don't. Just don't. The one is not negotiable. If you can't get back around, don't go there. - Playing too loud. Bars are usually crappy acoustical...

I'm yer typical "set 'em 'n' ferget 'em" kind of guy when it comes to strings (not to say I don't tweak my set-ups as needed); I almost never change/replace my strings unless one breaks or something bugs me about a set. Well, lately something's been bugging me more and more. I have D'Addario Half-Rounds on two Fender basses. One of them plays fine, the...
