I was thinking, always a dangerous practice. I have heard that the advantage of a sealed cabinet is that the sound coming out of an openbacked cabinet tends to cancel out wanted vibrations. The disadvantage is that the air in the sealed cabinet tends to impede the movement of the speaker and reduce bass response in particular. So you home owners, how...

I currently use an Ampeg B2R (350w into 4 ohms, 200 into 8 ohms). It's used with either an Eden 2x10 or Mesa 1x15, 8 ohms each, or sometimes both cabinets together for larger gigs. Either way, it doesn't sound as tight as I'd like. I don't need to play much louder, but it's a different quality I'm looking for. I wondered if the amp's damping factor isn't...

I would like some idea of what people think of the Roland cube30 bass amp. I am going to use it for practice and possibly an on stage monitor. Mainly acoustic type gigs with a PA and I will go through the PA. For practice the lead guitarist is not going to be too loud, he's considerate. :-) Geoff

I'm just musing here, but if I decide to get off the dime so to speak how much would I have to pay to get a good sounding 300 watts in less than 40 lbs? Just surfing the net it appears that I save little if anything by going to a head and cab weight wise. I'm under the impression that the Eden units are probably the best sound and lightest weight for...

I play in a band that also has an upright bass player. Her problem is that if she has her monitor too loud then the strings fibrate and "feedback" sustained notes. But if she has her monitor too low then she can not hear herself play. I recommeneded that she get in ear monitors or play and electric upright bass. Is there another solution? -DA...

Reading the threads on this BBS one begins to ponder what music is. We have the physics of the string against metal against wood through magnets and brass and the physicics of intonation and the perverted mathematics of temperament and pitch. We have the names given to scales and modes and maqams and such like - the theory that explains and inderpins...

Can someone please recommend a nice, fast, simple (and balanced) way for live switching between 2 basses? Convenience takes precedence over price. I have seen that magnetic cable that pops apart and re-attaches, and while it is fast, it doesn't allow you to balance the volume of the two instruments. Looking for something more versatile, like the Radial...

Three weeks ago, I get an email from my keyboard player, saying he's got some fantastic ideas for one of the songs on our list. This weekend at practice, the guy couldn't play the damned song to save his life, and wondered if any of us had managed to find the chords for it. So much for his great ideas. I said "If I stumbled across the chords online somewhere,...

I was surfing for a replacement speaker for my custom 15" cab. Saw B&C which I hadn't heard of so I took a look. The prices are listed in Euros which I don't know how much that is US but anyway they have a 21" speaker. I wonder what that would sound like. Even though it's an Ndym it still weighs about 32 lbs (15.5 kgs). They seem to be meant for PA...
