So, there's these folks at work who have a band - I know them all professionally. They play mostly 80's-ish rock, with some classics, more contemporary things, and some originals thrown in. They play out every couple of months or so, and rehearse once week in the lead guitarist's basement. Their current bass player is moving on and they asked me if...

---Anybody here know what this is supposed to be? According to Wiki, it's the "playing style" of Mel Schacer (Grand Funk). http :// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel Schacher Sounds like typical power trio lead bass to me, but I might be missin' something....

Shit, I have gotten 3 separate letters from the Fed telling me I am entitled to a rebate check. Yeah, I knew that assholes, quit teasing me. I'm not hurtin' for the bucks but it's like waiting for my package from MF. I just want it to get here ;-) SotR

I have almost completed building a 30 1/2 in. scale electric bass. I don't think that this length of scale would suit a low B. I have tried Fender short scale bass strings for the lowest four strings. They sound ok. What options do I have for the top two strings? I have not yet learned to play the guitar so if you can suggest any alternative tunings (and...

I went to a gig last night (Acoustic Blues) - 2 Guitars but no Bass. Now then, at the end of the gig one of the guys did put on a Bass and did a solo performance for about 10 mins. His fingers were all over the fretboard and everybody was saying what a great 'Bassist' (making me feel quite small). However, the solo he was playing could just have well...

Despite my bitching, not all contests suck. We did one last year sponsored by Alice Cooper's club. Very well run. We're doing one this Saturday at a Fort McDowell Casino. It's going to be a popularity contest for the $5,000 prize, but that's the music biz, right? Well, this week on one of the bigger rock radio stations they have been advertising the...

I can't remember if I posted this or not, but we've gotten several positive comments about it recently. It cost $3 (not a typo) which includes hosting it. It can be converted into a YouTube video (will do that soon). All you do is upload the photos and arrange them in order. Tip: Order them yourself by renaming so that alphabetically they are in the...

Will using a Y cord or signal splitter degrade the instrument output signal? I'm thinking that each pathway only gets half of the original signal. Is this how it works? My idea is to have an FX chain into one amp then a dry signal into another splitting the instrument output at the input to my pedal board. The FX loop is not recommended for some of...

I need some headphones for practising at home, and was recommended Sennheiser HD555. They're fairly expensive, but after trying them out I must admit that they sound good. I would like to hear what some of you guys here use (and I hope that some of them are a bit cheaper). /Lasse http :// www .myspace, com /RockyRaccoonBand

I don't know why gear is so complex today. A few years ago I bought a DSP unit for vocals. Of course it is digital, midi etc. Everything can be edited and saved. Luckily it has some usable presets. Then I bought a Mackie digital mixer....forget about it! I sold it and got a Behringer. I needed a recorder that I could record 8 simultaneous tracks on and bought...

A friend of my son is bringing over his Schecter 5 string because I'm supposedly the authority on string height adjustment. Ha. Apparently, the kid has made a mess of his setup (too high on two strings, too low on others) and wants me to show him how to get the thing where it should be. My take on this is that you have to live with a certain adjustment...

OK, here's the deal: I know this belongs in alt.recording. I also know that there are people in here who are far more knowledgeable than those guys, and you won't degenerate this into a 3 month argument about conversion algorithms. Right now, I've got a nice little 4x16 DAW (running Cubase) setup on my computer which has served me reasonably well the...

Hi All, Has anyone found a good tool to use in making neck adjustments on a Guild Pilot? The end of the truss rod is a hex shape on the outside and I don't think there is a hole in the center that can be used to turn it, and there is very little room around it to get a socket in there. I'm guessing that there is some special tool that is used, any...
