I have been away from rec.travel.usa-canada for a while and see now that it has gotten worse in terms of jackasses peddling their junk and stupid irrelevant opinions. Too bad. it used to informative and fun to be part of the various threads. Are there any moderated travel newsgroups that those who really do want to talk travel.usa-canada have now migrated...

Due to naughty airlines changing schedules an itinerary I had put togther that included a leg from Dayton Ohio to Chicago in August got screwed up. Anyone got some novel ideas (no horseback please) on a good cheap way to make that journey on a sunny August Sunday? Hi I am planning a trip to the US and have been browsing the Star Alliance schedules. I note that all airlines state food and beverages are available for purchase. Does this apply to premium class travel? Do I have to take my own sandwiches? Any comments appreciated. Thanks Akarana

We are rethinking our early autumn vacation in the face of increasing gas prices. As we have eight people in our family, we originally planned to drive the 2,300-mile round trip, but we are now seriously considering either flying or taking the train. Booking bedrooms on the train is not within our budget -- certainly it would not be cheaper than driving....
