OK, for a lazy guy this was tough, but I got it all figured out. Those of you who said the door locks should work were right. I shot some WD40 in them, twisted the key back and forth a few times and they broke loose. Door locks now open with the key. I don't have to go to all the effort of memorizing a combination. ;-) (I did write it on a slip of paper...

My 2005 XLT was broken into recently...they broke the driver window...and stole my $140 aftermarket stereo. I always thought there was some sort of OEM break-in sensors on these Explorers, but I guess not. I checked the owner's guide and all I saw in there were references to the anti-theft system. Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone have any...

My 2000 Limited V8 has been a little hard to start a couple of times. Instead of just firing up, it just kinds of putts/misses, then dies again. It has only happened a couple of times. From reading past posts, it sounds like the IAC valve may need cleaning or replacement. The vehicle has a little less than 80K miles and was purchased new. It has...

I recently bought a used 2000 XLT with keyless entry. It also has key locks on the front doors and tailgate. The key opens the tailgate, but doesn't turn the front door locks. This is the first vehicle I've had with keyless entry- is it normal to have the standard door locks be non-functional with keyless entry? Just curious. Oh yeah, one other question....

Can anyone tell me where/how to access the rear tail light assembly? I need to change the turn signal bulb and can't seem to locate any access port or screws. Thanks, Jim

Lost my OD and all engine braking in any gear. Strangely the gas mileage seems to have gone up about 10%. Maybe just the cold weather letting the AC loaf. Hadn't driven it for a couple of weeks (mainly the wife drives it) and used it to take the family to dinner yesterday and on the freeway was thinking "the rpm's seem awfully high". Asked wife is she...

Hi folks, I own an 98 Explorer V-8, 5.0 with 105 thousand miles, everything original under the hood except the radiator hoses I replaced last summer. I started the vehicle two days ago and it immediately died, on the third try it continued running, very roughly. After driving about 1 mile it smoothed up and the problem hasn't occured since. How often...

I have a 1999 4WD Ford Explorer. 1st gear will not hold back at all. I put it in first, and coast down a hill. Once i reach a certain speed/rpm, it is like it is in neutral. I can rev the motor and everything. I can put it in first while stopped, and start going, and once i reach a certain rpm, it is like it goes out of gear a dn just revs. I need it...

I need to replace all 4 brake rotors on my 2003 explorer. I have never replaced brake rotors on a 4x4. Is it harder? Does the center nut on the rear rotor need to come off? Thanks, Joe

A tail light went out on my 96 explorer. When I tried to open the tailgate, the handle broke. How can I get the tailgate open to fix/replace the handle and change the bulb. Local police don't like me driving around without tail lights. Thanks for the help Joe

I have a 97 Explorer that the 4WD hi/lo is flashing 6 times waits about 2 minutes and flashes again 6 time. I've noticed in tight turn there is shutter in the front wheels as though the 4wd is kicked in but it isn't in the selector. As a matter of fact, the selector now doesn't work. I've heard of a speed sensor that might cause this. Is this the spedo sensor...

I have a 1995 Explorer 6-cyl automatic with ~110K miles. Truck usually starts and runs fine. Normal starting procedure is just to turn the key without depressing accelerator and she fires right up, bingo. However, on the rare occasion, with no apparent correlation to either a hot or cold engine, when I start the engine it doesn't quite "hit" and will immediately...
