2005 Explorer XLT I noticed that my right blinker started blinking very fast the other day (blinking fast inside the vehicle, on the instrument panel when I turn on the right turn signal). I checked my turn lights and found that the right (passenger) side turn light is not working. I guess the fast blinking is to let you know that there is a problem somewhere--I've never...

Last week I had the brakes replaced in my 2001 Explorer Sport...new pads all around, new rotors in the front, and turned rotors in the back. The first time I got on the interstate (60+ mph), I noticed a vibration and a low-frequency noise coming from the front end. The vibration and the noise both increase significantly when I hit the brakes. Also, the...

No one had any input so here's one way, fyi: for a 1996 XLT, open the rear window, remove the gasket around the window opening, use a broad screwdriver to pry out the plastic rivets around the top of the plastic molding, there's about 6 of these. Remove the screws holding the inside pull strap, then the screw under the plug around the door lock. Now the...

1996 EB AWD V8 w/245K miles Last night while driving home I noticed a whinning sound like you'd hear with a bad power steering pump which changed pitch with engine RPM. The tranny then started slipping - eventually getting to the point where it wouldn't move the vehicle about a block from home. Parked it on street overnight and checked it this PM...

On my '93 4.0 Explorer XLT there is a black plastic oblong (or sausage) shaped container of some sort on the passenger side of the motor. It's about 10 inches long and 3-4 inches around and has what appears to be hard plastic vacuum lines attached to it. It's pictured in my cheapie Chilton's manual, but it's not identified anywhere I can find. Some of...

How hard is it to remove this panel, and can someone tell me how to go about it? There's noithing in my Haynes manual, and Google turned up nothin...

This one has me stumped. I got a 1992 Ford Explorer 4.0 4x4 and automatic. I replaced my intake manifold gasket (upper and lower) this weekend and when we got everything back together, the engine ran fine, no leaks, sounded good. But when we started it up the temp gauge was way over. Then we finished adding more coolant once the engine sucked more into...

I have a '98 Explorer XLT, and I need to take out the steering rack. I have a Haynes manual, and it says to disconnect the steering input shaft; remove the hoses; remove the power steering cooler; separate the tie-rod ends from the wheel spindle; and remove the steering gear mounting bolts. Then I'm supposed to be able to rotate the gear forward, slide...

You can download an owner's manual for free from Ford. Go here: * w w w .motorcraftservice . com /vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid= Click the "Owner Guides" link at left, then input the year and model. They are in .pdf format, so you need the free Adobe Acrobat reader. It's almost better than a paper manual, because you can search it for a phrase...
