Well, the second set of Michelins on the '06 Sport has come to the end of its useful life at less than 28K miles. Obviously pretty bad tread life. It seems providential that the government wants to give me $600 so that I will feel stimulated. A free new set of tires would be stimulating enough so that is what I intend to spend it on. I've been considering...

I was just in getting an oil change and the dealer told me I needed new front pads and rotors. (96 Miata with 70k miles on it, street use only) Now I've had no noise, squealing, fading, pulling, any brake issues at all. I can understand it being time for pads, but why would the rotors need replacing? There's no apparent wear on them, only barely visible...

Anyone have any info on which is the best (relatively inexpensive) tire gauge??? I have both a Victor digital and unknown brand pencil type. They agree at 30 lbs and are 4 lbs off at 45.... I'm not sure which one to believe..,it would be nice to find a link to some test results on both accuracy and long term reliability. ...Thanks

I've been reading an article on cars and their CW values and what it means for efficiency. The article is in German but I thought the figures given for the MX-5 may be interesting so here it goes. Top down: 0.45 cw Soft top up: 0.39 cw Hard top up: 0.37 cw At 150 KMPH The Hard top uses 0.3 litres of gas less than the soft top per 100 KM. With the...

Remember awhile back we had a fairly lively discussion about the use / over use of tasers by police? Well, this month, Patrick Bedard discusses this issue in his Car and Driver editorial. He even discusses the Austin Texas video and the one (I believe in Colorado?) where the guy tries to get the cop to go back and show him the speed limit sign. Both of...

Anybody have a clue what a used set of 'top hats' (I believe that's the term) should sell for? I've got a set available and a person interested so, I'm just wondering. Is there an approximate value (relative to new) like 50% or 33% of what new would cost that is considered a guideline? My guess is that used parts places usually sell for 50% of cost of...

Hi Guys, I own a 2005 NC Limited Edition and I'm looking for some type of dressing to use on the soft top. Being the fabric style I'm not sure what I can usre without leaving white marks and/or damaging the membrane. Contacted Meguires here in Oz and they were unable to recommend anything "but we're searching the world to find a product we can put into...

Following a winter in the garage with the battery removed my Miata won't start. The battery has been fully charged. The car does not crank. In fact almost nothing will work. The emergency flashers, signal lights, wipers etc all won't work but the headlights do. Near as I can tell other than the headlights nothing else is receiving power when the ignition...

Hi All, I hear a rubbing that seems to be coming from the instrument panel. It changes with the car speed, not the engine speed. My thought was that it could be a speedometer cable gone bad but the speedometer registers smoothly and I would think that if the cable was faulty then the speedometer needle would vibrate in tandem with the noise. I welcome...

Just started up my 1996 1.8 MX5 after its winter rest. Noticed after few minutes smoke coming from engine bay through bonnet, opened bonnet and traced source to what I think is the EGR? pipe on the exhaust manifold,it seems to be quite oily on the ouside which is causing the smoke when the engine becomes warm. Anyone any ideas Thanks

A CD got stuck in my CD player in my '99 MX-5. After removing and replacing most of the fuses under the dash, the CD finally freed itself, but the radio panel light stayed on when the ignition was switched off. Removing the dashboard lights fuse under the hood solved that, but now the antenna will raise and lower itself (and the unit will switch on...

I have a 2000 Miata with 58k miles. The catalytic converter was recently replaces under the factory warranty. The engine light has come on again. The error code appears to be an O2 sensor. Would this also be covered by the factory warranty on a car this old and with this milage? Beachbum

The best drivers in the world, in a male-dominated sport, crushed by a 100 pound American hottie. Gotta love it....... Pat
