On April 1, 1994, the USENET newsgroup rec.autos.sport was divided into several racing-related groups - one of which was rec.autos.sport.nascar, or "rasn" as it became known to it's participants. On August 13, 1998 a second nascar-related USENET newsgroup (this group) was voted into existence: rec.autos.sport.nascar.moderated, or "rasnm". The rationale...

Anybuddy in here? Or...has my sorry ISP (with Pronews) decided to squelch a mod group along with killing the pic part of postings to binary newsgroups?? Last few images I got were wonderful shots of the Finnish fjords with fantastic Harley retro mods parked hither and thither. Sigh. -- Tom in Bristol

I will finally get my live NASCAR fix this weekend when I attend the NNWS race at Gateway. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing that KyBu won't win. It will be interesting the see how young Mr. Logano does in the 20 car. Just fer funsies, I will post my RPG for this race on Saturday... any other takers? Mike

agree with pig.... it sux when quals are rained out... but nevertheless, the games must go on. The stars are aligning for a Roush-Fenway blowout, but as in the past, my predictions have a way of going somewhat <ahem> haywire. The Roush-Fenway cars were quite respectable tonight and if the tea leaves would have been oriented somewhat differently it...

AARGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! It's only an hour until the green... I'd better get a move on and get these in..... Things are a bit discombobulated today... Son and his wife presented me with grandchild #6 this morning - a 10 lb boy, born at 1:45. That makes two boys and a girl for them and two girls and a boy for my daughter....... Winner: Who knows???...

Well, having watched the Nationwide race last night, I figure this may well be one of the most boring races of the year :-( The Win: Greg Biffle. Practiced decently, altho I suspect that won't amount to anything. This race is likely to be one of those "whoever's first off pit road disappears into the distance" deals. Best Chevy: Jeff Burton. Ran...

Soooo, without further adieu, here are my top five, in no particular order. Biffle Johnson Busch, Ky Kenseth Earnhardt with...

I hate predicting rained out qualifying, I hate predicting rained out qualifying, I hate predicting rained out qualifying.... [This is not working. That is supposed to work like Dorothy's "There's no place like home" and somehow retroactively cause qualifying to not be rained out.....] How shall we do this this week? Top Hendrick driver: Junebug. Top...

So, knowing that Nascar Nation is predominately Republican, how loud are the boos going to be? http :// sportsillustrated.cnn, com /2008/writers/tom bowles/07/11/obama/index.html?cnn=yes N.

6.1 - Why is rasnm moderated? Even though all Big 8 Usenet newsgroups have a Charter, in an unmoderated newsgroup there is no way to ensure that posts to the newsgroup abide by the Charter. Everyone is on the "honor system". Unfortunately, that oftentimes results in a newsgroup becoming a dumping ground for spam, profanity, off-topic posts, and (in the...

The charter of r.a.s.n.m, which we have all agreed to follow, prohibits "Commercial or Money-Making Posts": 4) Commercial and Money-Making Posts are defined as posts whose primary purpose is to solicit a benefit for the poster. This would include, but is not limited to, advertisements of businesses, direct advertisements of goods ...

The registration process outlined in the charter for new posters wanting to get started posting to rec.autos.sport.nascar.moderated has been eliminated. Now, instead of having to register an agreement to abide by the charter, new posters simply have to post an article like they would to any other USENET newsgroup. The first post from any given e-mail...
