Today I did a drain and refill of my transmission pan's Toyota T-IV, replacing it with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. 3.7 quarts of red T-IV drained out and I replaced it with 4 quarts of red M1 Synthetic. The extra 1/4 of a quart or 0.30 quarts isn't too much extra, is it? Not enough to cause foaming or windage, right? (Not even sure windage is an issue...

'99 Cavalier 2.2 suddenly developed a moderate 'clacking' noise. The noise is the same, whether the engine is hot or cold. I get a pretty strong match to the sound, when I listen to a stick on the rocker arm bolt for #1 exhaust. All-in-all, It sounds like a noisy lifter to me; but, I've been wrong once or twice. - Given that I can hear it on the rocker...

2003 GMC Sonoma. New thermostat, self installed last week, not losing coolant, hoses original but look good, no noise or leak from water pump. Gurgling noise from heater core on cold startup. Radiator cap seems to be holding pressure. Never been flushed. Changed oil / filter just last week. Radiator fan is spinning. The heat works as normal until...

I've been trying to solve a leaking issue on a C-4 auto trans on a '66 Fairlane. I replaced the shift shaft seal, the bushings on the center shaft, it's still leaking and as near as I can tell it's coming from the mating surface of the transmission pan. If the pan is sitting on a perfectly flat surface, ideally should the gasket surface of the pan contact...

I have a black, 4 door, 1986 Chervolet Celibity. It is in mint condition (also still has the orginial upholstery)exceptit got a tiny power steering leak which I had to add about a tablespoon of p.s. fluid about once a week. I was told to buy a Rack and Pinion (Cost me $93 counting the tax and core charge. I took it to a well known mechanic and he fixed...

Time-Serts spark plug inserts look like the best solution to my seized spark plugs problem. They are a true bushing, not a "coil spring" like some others (coil types have a tendency to unscrew with the plug sometimes). The inserts are ~$5 each. The down side: upwards of $200 for the install tool kit (tap, reamer, installer). If someone has this...

Forget "electric" cars for at least 15 years. Until then, it'll be gas-guzzlin' all the way! A one-dollar federal tax on gasoline would help solve the problem ... but it won't happen here in SUV-land. ----------------- "It's a Long Road to Profitable Fuel Economy in the U.S." By Warren Brown Sunday, June 28, 2009 THE BEST MYTHS are sometimes...
