My 1996 Mercury Marquis developed a loss of coolant into the passenger cabin this morning. My mechanic's snap opinion (he hasn't looked yet) is that the heater core is shot, followed by major moaning about how tough it is to pull and replace the heater core and how much it will cost because the whole dash has to be removed and replaced. Question:...

I'm changing the steering system on my 1948 Desoto Suburban (9 passenger, 4800 pound vehicle) from the original pitman arm steering to rack and pinion steering. I purchased a rebuilt back-steer rack and pinion (45" long) that was for a 1995-2005 Chevy Cavalier or Pontiac Sunfire. I built the mounting housing, new steering shaft, new power hoses from...

My '90 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 refuses to start. When I turn the key the starter or solenoid makes a humming/buzzing noise, like it's trying to turn the engine without success. However, with the headlights on they only dim slightly, not at all as much as normal. So I got my jumper cable and connected one end to the battery (+), and the other to the solenoid....

Ever get one of those HUH? questions stuck in your head? Here's the one posed to me by a neighbor. How did PRNDL become the standard nomenclature for automatic transmissions? P- Park - Makes sense because that it what it does. R- Reverse - Same as above. N- Neutral - Ditto D- Drive, Well you do "drive " the vehicle but why not F- Forward? L- Low...

Installed new FLT automatic tranny. Installed Kooks headers, with MSD wires, and new spark plugs. (150k miles 1995 Camaro Z28 (LT1), original O2 sensors). She starts up fine - let her idle for 5 minutes, not a heartbeat missing. The "Check Gauges" light on the dash is on and the oil pressure, engine temp, and fuel gauges are all wacked out: * Oil...

I own a 2001 Chev. Lumina with a 3.1 V-6 that has about 65,000 miles on it. The motor is quite noisy when it is cold. More of a dull tapping sound than a click. I do not like to drive it until it has warmed up some. It quiets down after reaching full temperature. The motor has always been "chattery", but it is getting worse. I am not familiar with the engines...

why I wont buy that 1990 Chevrolet RV van from a neighbor who lives in that house behind me is because I dont know anything about throttle body fuel injection,,,, I think I am too old to learn either.Carburetors, (simple one barell and two barrel carburetors, I know how to work on and get them going) It is a nice looking 1990 Chevrolet RV van, but not for me. cuhulin...

Does anyone have any idea how much vacuum should develop at an EGR port on a carburetor with the engine revved to about 2000rpm? I installed a brand spanking new Holley 2280 carburetor on my 87 Dodge Dakota V6 engine and failed the NO part of the California smog test. The HC and CO tests passed well below average. I came back home and checked the...

I went to the 2007 South Florida International Auto Show to check out the new 2008 and 2009 cars on display back in November. It was held, as usual, at the Miami Beach Convention Center. I finally got around to uploading the 400+ pictures. There were over 40 manufacturers showing off their new models plus an exotic car section and a classic car section. Here's...

My 92, 4 cylinder Camry is stuck on 4th gear. Acceleration is poor. The OD light isn't working but the OD bulb fuse is fine. The OD button is fine. The shifter D light isn't working. And when I step on the brakes then select any gear the brake light failure light goes on. I change two out of four bulbs but the problem remains. I check the 2-pin connector...
