First, a bit of background. I might do better if I fix the transmission and the speedo cable. The speedo cable is broken at the tranny, and needs a new piece to make things right. Only $80 for a 6" piece of cable. This will get the speed sensor in the speedometer feeding to the ECU again (the sensor is working, but because the speedo isn't it registers 0...

I have a 97 Cavalier, with the Anti-Theft light on solidly. It will not start or crank. This car uses standard keys, not the ones with the pellet. I have tried the relearn procedure, (Key in start position, then in "on" position for 11 minutes until the light goes off, repeat 2 more times) but the anti theft light never goes off. How this started: Monday...

I'm an apprentice tech at a Chevy dealership. They have had me take a bunch of on-line classes that I do after hours. It was implied that I would get paid for this time. I have completed all of the on-line training and now they want to send me to Phoenix for 2 days for my final hands on-diesel training. They have told me that I wont get paid for this...

Several months ago my wife drove our '96 Dodge Caravan to a friends house. The van would not start when she attempted to leave. It turned over, and all the lights worked but it just wouldn't start. The engine would just turn over, it wasn't catching at all. It seemed like there was either no gas or no spark. I had a local repair shop tow it to his business....

Hello, Was wondering about this. Live in New England. Obviously, get lots of snow and freezing rain in the winter. Is it reasonable to store summer tires outdoors in the winter, when one puts on their winter tires ? Certainly understand that indoors in a garage would be better, but is it really harmful to store them outdoors if there is no space...

Few things are worse than getting a flat tire, putting on that anemic little spare tire, and then having the spare tire last for just a few miles before shredding and becoming a motorized pizza cutter. Unfortunately for me, that just happened. So now I need a new spare tire. One option would be to just locate a proper rim and buy a tire for it, but...

Have a 2000 Mazda Protege ES with 150k on it. Have taken meticulous care of it and had the timing belt changed at 100k by Mazda dealer I bought the vehicle new from. Friday night it stopped dead in its tracks and it sounds like the current timing belt has broken!! Is there any kind of warranty on timing belts? is it 50k failure out of ordinary?...

Need advice on pre owned XK8 Jag We have never owned a Jag. We live in the SF Bay Area, CA We are thinking of buying a pre owned XK8 Convertible. Model year 1998 to 2003. The prices seems to range from $18,000 to $30,000. We are not sure which model year we will end up with... it will depend on the deal we get. We are undecided as which XK8 to get..convertible...

Hey everyone - long time lurker, first time poster. I have a 1999 Mazda Protege, 1.6L engine, at about 110,000 miles. For the life of me I can't get this problem figured out: The front driver's side front brake rotor keeps warping. The warpage is so bad that you can hear "wonka, wonka, wonka" as the car goes down the road- the "wonka" being the sound...

Some new cars have digital mpg sensors and gauges. For those of you that have them, how accurate do you think they are? When on interstate how much difference is their in mpg at 55 mph, 65 mph, and 65 mph? A dump truck owner said his gauge reads about 5 mpg on highway, 1 mpg on stop and go gravel back roads.

I'm in the process of pulling the drive plate off a vehicle to replace the rear main seal. In the process of loosening the 10 bolts, I managed to bugger up the heads on two of them. The socket I was using slipped off and rounded off a couple of shoulders on the bold head. When this happened, I stopped screwing with them in order to minimize further damage....

I have a 2006 Ford Taurus white in color; I am not exactly certain what the real name of the white color is, but it is probably a standard white. The rear bumper had been "flexed" and paint came off the crease (I think that's the name for the "bend" or "fold" in the bumper). The front bumper has been "scraped" against a black wrought-iron fence in...
