A few weeks ago, I had the following work done on my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan: new tires, a front end alignment, brake inspection, and a transmission fliud flush and fill. When I left the service center, I noticed a problem that had not been there before. After bringing up the speed to at least 35-40 mph and then slowing down, there was a very noticable...

We've talked here before about max cold tire inflation pressure. Here's a fascinating article from Officer . com . Some police officers drive with maximum air pressure in their tires as shown on the tire sidewall, not the door sill or the owner's manual. Here's a link to the article for some great photographs: * w w w .officer . com /article/article.jsp?siteSection=19&id'281 and...

I have a 1995 Lexus GS300 with ~30k miles. It has had regular dealer service, though perhaps not optimally since they like to go by mileage. Recently the car has developed an odd vibration and steering wheel oscillation on certain highways at 50-60mph. (The roads aren't great, but they are the same roads I've been driving for 13 years so I don't think...

A couple years ago, there was a thread in rec.autos.tech about devices to electrolyze water and feed the gases into an engine, supposedly greatly increasing gas mileage. Two web sites that were mentioned are: * w w w .savefuel.ca/oxy-hydrogen/ * w w w .hydrogen-boost . com /index.html Unfortunately, the thread wandered off into the weeds with...

If a system has received refrigerant + oil charges over time and will no longer take a full refrigerant charge because of the accumulation of oil in the system, how to you remove the oil? Will a vacuum pump remove any of this as it takes the gas out of the lines? -Inet

My wife drives a 2001 Jeep Wrangler six cylinder. We bought it new and it has 74,000 miles. She works 1 1/2 miles from home, so I'd say 70% of the miles are from short trips. I installed new valve lifters this weekend and when I removed the valve cover I was shocked to see how much sludge was built up inside the cover and on top of the head. There...

We have a 1988 Corsica, it's always ran really good. Then it started getting Slower, and Slower Starting up. Then finally one day, it just wouldn't start up, It had a horrible noise, so we knew we had 3 options. 1. Battery Was bad. 2. Alternator went bad. 3. Starter was shot. The Battery was still fully charged, so that Eliminated the Battery, and...

This is pretty straightforward: * w w w .cygnusx1 . net /Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=SR&P=41 However, on my car, the recommended ATF has been replaced by Power Steering Fluid, and who knows if it was done properly? I read something in a Supra Owner's Group site that if the steering starts feeling wonky, and there aren't any problems with the...

This is a Chrysler Town and Country 2008, 3.8L, 103 thousand miles. I just replace the engine 5 months ago. I am able to use an ODB scanner to read the code and it says 7 emission tests are ready or something to that extend. When I bring it to a inspection station, they say they can't read the emission from the ODB interface. I said I just did it before...

A garage mech told me today never to grease the threads of wheell lug nuts, because it makes it easier for them to back off i.e. become loose. Opinions? -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)
