When the the service engine soon and mainenance lights (both orange) are on the car runs fine but there are two catches in first gear starting off their is absolutely no power...

I'm overhauling my 94 DOHC engine again, and as I look at ROck-Auto's web site, I notice that they have THREE choices for rear-main seal available. Since the mains on the Saturn DOHC engines are usually leakers, I guess they are designed to address the problem. One is an "improved design" from Fel Pro that is a couple of millimeters thicker. One is made...

Drained the Mobil 1 synthetic oil (that cost $8.99/qt), replaced it with Valvoline ($4.99/qt) and added GM Limited Slip oil ($9/4 oz) I could feel the difference within 10 feet. The rear end was nice and smooth, even going in a straight line. No more grabbing/juddering going around corners, even in 1st gear. It's like I put a brand new diff in the car! No...

OK, I know that folks out there have seen some strange "repairs" over the years. So what have you seen? Here is mine. Had a car come in that the owner tells me had a leak in the vacuum system. He tells me his kid tried to repair it. I pop the hood and find EVERY line under the hood coated with some type of bed-liner spray. Seems the kid figured that...

This is an '02 GMC Envoy. The climate control readout says 50 degrees F most of the time even though it is 90+ outside. Sometimes it drops as low as -8 degrees. It's all over the place. Even when it displays 50 degrees, though, it still blows cold. Anything below 50 and it blows hot. Today it started blowing hot, and there was a clicking from under the...

I have been given an older air compressor, and have no documentation on it. The oil in the compressor is black and has some water in it, so I am washing it out with tranny fluid and allowing it to drain clean. What would you guess is the best oil to put back into this compressor? 30 weight non detergent? Or does it really matter very much?

I just bought a 2008 Grand Caravan SE Value. I didn't necessarily want to pay the dealer the $500 they said it costs to install Cruise Control, because I'm pretty sure it's a rather simple install since it probably has all the sensors and wiring in place already. I have some questions, hopefully to be answered by a friendly Chrysler Garage tech. Does...

I have a 1994 Mazda Protege with 234,000 miles. It appeared to overheat today because temp gauge was close to the top of the heat range. Details: All cooling fans working, new thermostat, temp sensor, and new cap as well. Outside temp was about 93 degrees and I was stuck in stop n go traffic for about 30 minutes. Temp went back to normal once...

Hi, My car had been leaking oil, and when I had it checked the guy drained the remaining oil, and then found that that the threading in the hole in the oil pan, where the oil drains out, had been partially stripped. The bolt was loose due to this, which is what had been causing the oil to leak. He couldn't find a long enough bolt that would reach the...

In a car with climate control, I set temperature to say 80. Does that mean the AC is running with full power but it mixes with some hot air or hot coolant to warm it up to the final temperature 80, or the 80 degree is maintained in a more economical way? I mean, does it run AC for a few minutes, stop so the inside temperature is about to go up, and then...
