Can anybody help me with a recipe of MEAD? As I've heard it is a honey alcohol drink. One of a few used during Pesach. Sincerely, Boris ____________________________________________________ rec.food.cuisine.jewish recipe archives <http://www.cyber-kitchen.com/rfcj> ____________________________________________________

In an Israeli version of Iron Chef, 8 chefs battled it out in kitchen stadium. The winning recipes were: antipasti, chicken kabobs in 3 different sauces, and chicken in a rich wine and mushroom stock; puff pastry filled with root vegetable puree and chicken breast with a touch of teriaki and dried fruit; chicken with sweet potato puree and prunes, rice...

I hadn't seen my friend or his wife in over ten years. Joy was looking through my copy of "the Jewish Home Beautiful", 1975 printing. Gary was stumbling through the Hebrew. Joy came across this recipe, which her Bobe used to make and asked me to send it to her. Here it is: Helzel (Stuffed Neck) 2 Tbs flour 1 Tbs Matzoh flour 1 tsp farina 1 tsp oatmeal 1/8...

Hello :-) I had a rather odd experience at the store just now. I was at the meat counter, asking the meat dude if he had any chicken backs in the freezer, when a lady standing next to me asked if I was going to make soup. I said that I was, and we got into a nice chat about how great chicken soup is. I happened to mention that I like to use chicken feet...

I'm an old (75) fan of historical NY Cheesecakes. I've eaten at both the original Lindy's and the original Turf. In my day there was a great rivalry over who had the best cheesecake between the two not unlike the old rivalry between Demel's and the Hotel Sacher in Vienna about Sachertorte. (Later a Viennese court settled that matter.) I've been searching...

I confess, this year I didn't make gefilte fish for the Sedarim. The local Safeway didn't have much in the way of Pesach supplies (i'm not impressed by grape-flavored matzo), but they did have a sale on the Manishewitz Whitefish & Pike. It was $5 for six pieces--not only did that beat the price of making it myself by about 1/4-1/3 (both salmon and...

My Mom made the best potato kugel in the world. She never had a recipe, and my sister and I have been trying to reproduce the memory of it for years. Mom was a very healthy cook. Very little fat, salt, sugar, etc. Fresh veggies, lean meats, fruits, whole grains, etc. She also never used spices. Said food tasted good plain if you didn't dull your taste...

Where I live it is impossible to even order pike, whitefish, carp, etc. in order to make one's own gefilte fish. After a couple of experiments, I have just made a great batch of gefilte fish out of tilapia. I used two whole tilapia and about 1.5 pounds of fillets. After fileting the whole fish and making sure to scrape all I could off the bones and skin,...

THE KOSHER PORK (Also Known As "My Personal Passover Story") Passover is about to arrive. I am reminded of something which happened thirteen years ago. Passover was a week away. I had just read that during Passover, Jewish dog owners could only keep dog foods which were free of homitz. I was the proud owner of a dog, my beloved mutt, Duke, so I...

I tried a yeast dough recipe for hamentaschen this year. After you hear my tale of woe, you won't want the recipe<g>. The first time I tried it, the dough was easy to work with and made beautiful hamentaschen that were tough as rubber to chew. Very tasty rubber, but rubber none the less. I figured I must have put in too much flour, so I weighted out...
