So I tried my first Pu Er (or what is sold as Pu Er) today. Very different. :-) The term earthy really does it justice. I think I am going to come to enjoy this particular tea, a lot. -- Aaron Hsu <arcfide@sacrideo.us> | Jabber: arcfide@jabber.org ``Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody...

Hi all, I've had two or three EXCITING Assams from Uptons before. The one I remember most was "Assam FTGFOP1 SPL CL" from Mangalam Estate (OR-575). It was *so* complex and spicy! AND it was THICK: Help me with this. The tea was *thick* in my mouth, as if it had some magic extra ingredient. This quality was not hard to brew for: a light infusion,...

I'm looking for a good source for GABA Oolong. A relative of mine has been using some with considerable success in dealing with his anxiety. I sent him a few oz. from HouDe and now, unfortunately, Guang is out until May. Does anyone know of any other honorable vendors for GABA Oolong? Thanks in advance. Shen

I have an automatic coffee maker I use to only make tea. I take two family size tea bags and a 12 cup coffee maker. It works pretty well and I don't have to watch it. I can go back an hour later and make the tea if I need to. I admit though that this method does not make the tea taste as rich as it does when I boil the tea on the stove. Are there...

I'll have to have a few more cups before I cover it but I've been enjoying some Green Mate I came across. It is an unfermented mate and very enjoyable... except for the poor first attempts to enjoy it at work. I assumed I could manage it in my gaiwan but the tiny shavings of the mate make it through even the tiniest crack. I endured two cups battling it...

I know as the weather warms up a bit here in the states, many posters (Dominick?) are interested in greens. This site was noted in another tea group and I found the site interesting and full of information. Although, I've never tried these teas, I do share Dominick's love of gyokuro, and I'm considering giving it a go. The prices vary; but, the posters...

Hello again, Since I am at it, does anyone know of tea farms in Japan that are available for visits or work? I am expecting to travel around starting April 1. I have a short list provided by Willing Workers on Organic Farms (WWOOF), but the options are limited. I speak both Mandarin Chinese and Japanese and have lived in both countries. ...

Brother Anthony, Dominic, et al, I will be traveling to Korea at the end of this month for a few days. Are there any recommended tea shops in Seoul, either for purchase or ceremony? I would consult your book but currently reside in Japan and do not believe I will be able to get a hold of it. Although I have been reading most of the traffic here...

I?ve had a 75 gram pack of oolong, produced in 2005. I?ve used it all by the end of 2007. I?ve sought it around here in Seoul, South Korea, but in vain. Following is the description written on the rectangle red paper box, having contained the tea. Origin: China, Fujian, Anxi, Gangde Producer: Qiyang Registered trademark: Zhengshan Logo:...

I have a general question about water quality and what impact it has on the taste of tea. I'm thinking of pH, mineral content etc. Is there any one factor that is most significant in contributing to off taste? Is anyone using bottled water or distilled water or deionized water to make tea? Does anyone have experience with making tea from water that...

What's your opinion of the many online stores selling Chinese teas? I have used several with varying outcomes. BTW, I'm new to this group and glad I found it. My primary interests are Chinese reds (esp. qimen) and whites, but I'm very interested in learning all about Indian teas, esp. darjeelings. Thanks!

I've been in a regular contact with the managers of various plantations in Darjeeling and all the gardens will come up with a slow start this year due to the uneven balance of temperature this year which makes the growth of new leafs and buds very slow, talking about the Darjeeling Valley Gardens like Puttabong, North Tukvar, Barnesbeg etc. which use to...
