Hi, I have a question to the helpful folks at rec.food.drink.tea. I have received a nice gift from my sister: it is a piece of a compressed cake made of dry buds and leaves of some kind of dried herbs. She bought it from a small vendor of Chinese teas, for quite a high price admittedly. The vendor said it was a puerh cake made of the finest tea buds....

Surprisingly potable. Liquid puffed rice, but good clear and cold. Toci

Today Jing Tea (in the UK, not the China based Jing teashop) and the Imperial Tea Court put up the first flush Chinese greens. I placed an order for a few things from Imperial - will let you know how they are. Prices seem to be a bit crazy this year though, although Imperial is always expensive. Has anyone else tried any of the '08 Chinese greens yet?...

Hello, all, We're heading back to Taos for a two weeks in late May. Does anyone know of any teahouses/vendors worth visiting in Santa Fe, Taos or Albuquerque area?......oh, not the frilly, white lace types or flavoured teas......please. Shen

Hi. It looks like teahub . com has a couple varieties of the spring '08 long jin (dragonwell) tea that I've been looking for. Their claims make it sound like top quality long jin, but I've never heard of them. Has anyone tried them as a vendor? Thanks.

Just a thought... would any of the group (who do not speak Chinese) find a 'talking' bablecarp useful ? While I use Babelcarp extensively (and appreciatively) , I'm constantly wondering if I am interpreting the words/phrases properly. if we could say type in 'Shu' to get the description as we usually do, what if you could also click a button and...

A couple of queries... Is it fair to assume that an English speaking vendor at this market will be hard to find ? I should take appropriately worded cue cards ?? Secondly ... I understand that bargaining in Beijing is the norm in the market type stalls, but is it still appropriate to bargain at the tea market, which I assume the locals also shop...

Hello, Not easy to describe one's taste in general, much more when trying it in a language not your own. Even worse when one knows of one's very limited tea-knowledge. Some weeks ago, I ordered some teas from Teaspring and put them on reserve while finishing the Lochans. So, yesterday morning, I opened the bag with: Wei Shan Mao Jian. Smell? Uh?...

I've got meetings there next month, and plan to arrive a couple of days early to deal with jet-lag and perhaps take a food tour. Any tea recommendations? TIA- DM

I see a few choices are available from both Jing Tea and TeaSpring. Has anyone tried either this year? I haven't ordered from either shop but from postings here, both seem good. Any recommendations for one over the other? Thanks!
