Hello. I know very little about these players, I don't want to buy, sell, audition a box full of them. I would like to ask (since this group most likely knows this) which player (I don't care about video) has the best quality sound and can it drive Grado's, say 80s without an additional amp? Thanks very much for your help here.

I have a Sony DTC-750 DAT player with an optical output connector in the back. I want to connect it to a Windows XP machine via a PCMCIA card to transfer DAT recordings. It's not a S/PCIF connector. Does anyone know a card that can be purchased to make this connection?

Anthony Tommasini, a classical music reviewer, looks at the state of audio: * snipurl . com /1u5mx He frames his article with a false comparison between Stereo Review and Gramophone, but in between he makes some cogent observations. One such: "Any discussion of recording technology has to note one intriguing quirk in the story: Few musicians have...

Hi, Time upgrade my hifi. I'm about to buy a Cambridge audio 840A v.2 amplifier. I've also had a serious look at the 840C CD player that can also act as a DAC for other devices (it has two digital inputs). Its pretty pricey though and I was wondering if anyone knows of a high quality standalone DAC converter to use with my new amp (ie, just the DAC...

Hello, I am new to this group and was wondering of anyone could help guide me through an upgrade to an old system. In the 80's I assembled a modest system with a Tandberg 3001 tuner, Revox CD player, Bryston 2B sub amp, Amber 70 series main amp, Energy 22pro speakers, Dahlquist DQ-LP1 Cross, DQ W1 sub, and NAD preamp. Over the years as things broke I replaced...

Hello - i have a query regarding what brand of DVD player i should purchase, with a particular requirement. I recently purchased a pair of hi end floorstanding stereo speakers, i got myself a 90 watt technics amplifier as well, i used to have a cyberhome DVD player hooked up to it. For the basic reason, that it had volume control on the remote, so i could...

I have a felt mat from a Rega turntable that hasn't been used in awhile, and consequently it's gotten a bit dusty. Would it be safe to hand wash the mat in the sink, or would I be better off just doing something like vacuuming the dust off? Thanks, -Neb

Hello I was wondering: I have seen portable DVD players that can play files from an USB disk. I suppose there are also home DVD players with that feature ? And what about Home Theatre amplifiers/receivers ? Since those can be connected to a TV they already can show menus, etc, to navigate the files. So they only need an USB connector and the software. Two...

Hello everyone, After I installed a single Rel subwoofer into my system I realized that it would be in phase with one speaker and not with the other. I explain: My room is just a bit more then 4000 cubic-feet, L shaped. I set the subwoofer into the left corner behind the left speaker (Unfortunately this is the only option I have). So, I measured the frequency...

surround sound 5.1 cables: 6 RCA vs toslink vs HDMI for DVD movies with half decent DD5.1 and/or DTS5.1 sound, anybody else notice that their AVR (that has 6 RCA inputs for 5.1, as well as a player with 6 RCA outputs) sounds better when used with the 6 RCA cables? i.e. than 5.1 audio via either a toslink connection or an HDMI connection for the moment,...
