Any recommendations for upgrading from Saras? I am really thinking of models that can be bought second hand! I love the Saras! Especially the tight, clean bass when driven with a nap250. However I now have a larger listening room (20ft x 25ft) and would like a some more of that clean bass right down to "visceral" level if possible. I listen to wide...

Hi Everyone, Enjoy the Music.com has just posted the February edition of our Review Magazine www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/ plus added three additional Las Vegas show reports! Of note within the Review Magazine is the guest manufacturer article Design Philosophy For Turntables: A paper from Pierre Lurne of Audiomeca plus a great DIY/technical article...

Just collected a pair of kabers with blown tweeters with a view to repair and I find something surprising inside:- Unsurprising:- the back panel is an official Active one (i.e. just 6 terminal posts) with direct wires to tweeter and mid-range drivers. Surprising:- the bass driver wiring still goes via LPF mounted at front of the enclosure. What is...

Unfortunately, my McIntosh2500 power amp was turned into a paperweight by a shipping company. So now I'd like to find something to replace it. I'm using a McIntosh c-38 preamp, so I'd simply like to have some opinions as to whether to use a tube power amp or a SS. My speakers are a pair of Infinity RS!!'s with the emit tweeters. I don't need anything...

I have a _fairly_ high end theater room consisting of Thiel CS3.6 fronts, and paradigm surround. I intend to build a subwoofer for the room that must match up well with the existing speakers. Note that this is for critical listening also, so the subwoofer will be completely concealed (and perhaps not used for this purpose). It will be used mostly for theater...

If allowed (and I have been) to choose any one pair of semi-vintage electrostatic speakers that: a) are working properly. b) have been checked by a reliable technician to verify a) above. c) they will be given to me at no cost as a return on a past favor, so there is really no reason to lean towards one over another nor any 'cost difference'. 1. Magnaplanar...

I'm doing a story about high-end music downloads, for people who aren't satisfied with the audio quality of MP3 or AAC. I'd like to talk to some audiophiles and get their opinions on the music downloads available at Apple iTunes, Amazon and other locations. Do any of you shop at these places? What about online services like Magnatune or MusicGiants, which...

I have a new CD pressing of a recording from the 60s (Sonatas and Paritas played by Grumiaux). The new CD pressing is: 96 kHz 24-bit super digital transfer Does this mean anything? Other things being equall is there an audible difference from the previous CD (I don't have it to compare). Steve

My old integrated amp [an Onkyo] and it's faithful sidekick, a Carver C-1 seem to have bitten the dust. Looking far and wide for replacements, I see none. I have no use for a Home Theatre which won't play my old vinyl nor my older shellac, but I do want to be able to hook up the four open-reel decks, three cassette decks, array of external processors, two...

Most of my SACDs and many of my CDs have too great a volume range. When the loud parts are at a reasonable level, the soft parts are inaudible. I live in the sticks so there is almost no background noise. Who makes a decent compressor? ---MIKE--- >>In the White Mountains of New Hampshire >> (44° 15' N - Elevation 1580')
