Can someone advise me please? I plan to copy some very old (38 years) open reel tapes to CD. I have an aging Sony TC366 Open Reel Recorder and a Dell Latitude D810 Notebook. Somehow I thought this would be easy!! :-) However, at present the notebook does not recognize an analogue signal at the line in. Moreover, the only piece of software that seems...

This old 10wpc Pioneer integrated is a nice sounding amplifier. But, it sure has an odd ball plug-in for loudspeaker hookup. I've not seen an amplifier with this setup before. It probably was short lived as a design for obvious reasons (incompatibility) although not without merits because it operated just like a regular two spade AC receptacle. +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Filename:...

Hello Everyone: Here is an update on my Nakamichi BX-300. This is the same tape deck that has flickering digits in its counter and keeps resetting its counter back to "0000" AND keeps putting itself back into PLAY mode - even when there is no tape in the machine. I have solved a couple of problems but caused another. First of all, I have narrowed...

Hi: Why do analog cell phones use FM? Why not AM? Microwave-frequencies can be done in AM just as well as FM? Why not use AM? In order to avoid "clipping" and interference with nearby stations, the modulator signal should be attenuated prior to D-A conversion and transmission. At the receiving end, the carrier signal should be amplified prior to...

Hi, A way exists to make quality ( 60# cubic foot MDF density ) but Curved- Wall loudspeaker cabinets in a home workshop. The benefits are well-known and published on books and discussed on the internet so the sound quality, both measured and qualitative are not discussed in this message. You do receive the following: Far less corner soundwave...

Can anyone tell me the impedance specifications for a typical cellphone? =   I'm interested in obtaining a "high-quality" headset from Sennheiser =3F=   one that's not specifically intended for use with cellphones. But I  wonder if it will work reasonably well with a cellphone anyway. Their  fact sheet on it . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ....

My telephone line developed an AC hum, which, thinking about it, left me curious how ground loops are avoided. If you drive two ground stakes into the ground about 20 feet apart, you can measure about a quarter volt of AC between them. There's AC floating around everywhere, and no two pieces of ground are the same potential. The telephone company would...

Hello All: I found a Nakamichi TA-4A Receiver at a thrift store, and I am attempting to repair it. I can't find the service manual, so I thought I would ask around to see what the problem might be, before I start digging into it. (NOTE: This is a STASIS model receiver with quasi- class A circuitry licensed from Threshold, so it's worth fixing!) When...

Maybe someone can help me with some information: I am looking for a switching box. I want to utilize three recording devices with my receiver, an open reel tape deck, a cassette deck and a computer. Some while back I saw a device from a company with a name something like Neal, or Niel. This switch would allow any recording device to select either of...
