Is there any software to tell whether an audio track was actually converted from an MP3 or WMA file, rather than ripped from a CD?

Hi, this weekend I will record an accordion 5tet. I've never done that before. Probably I will mic the players right hands, just in case I need them but I would like to record them all with a stereo technique. I need some suggestion on which one would be better. Place: small church (I haven't seen it yet) probably very reverberant. Instruments: 5 accordions,...

In my quest for ways to increase my earning potential (and to stay in the recording business!) a friend suggested that I look into becoming an audio forensics dude. Do any of you folks have experience, strength and/or hope to share? He pointed me in the direction of these guys: http://www.tracertek.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=122 They...

It always amuses me when the next greatest memory technology is invented and the technology 'journalists' say that now we will be able to store 10 billion songs on our 'ipods'. Why don't they say that we can now store one billion songs, and they won't have to sound like crap ?!! geoff

I'm thinking about trying out some in ear monitors but I don't know if I'll be able to stand them being in there. Based on that I am thinking about buying a set for sort of an extended trial period and then buying lasting ones later if I do like them. Are there any inexpensive in ear monitors that will have good sound quality. 1 Raido Freqs are NOT...

so right now i only have 2 channels of pres. millennia hv3c. it's my favorite pre and I love it. i used to have 6 channels of rnp and they sound good and work well and i'm happy with them, but I don't have them anymore (i needed the cash a while back). so now I'm needing some mic pres again as I've redone how my project studio is setup. I've never heard...

I guess this isn't quite on-topic for this group, but I figure many people here have some experience with this... A few years ago I bought a repair kit to replace the deteriorating foam surrounds on my 10" JBL stereo speakers. At the time only one surround needed doing, so I only used one surround. Now the other speaker needs it, but I find the bottle...

I'm a semi regular poster so I hope you don't think this is spam. I have an almost brand new Allen and Heath Mixwizard 3 16:2 that i don't need. I bought it 2 months ago (brand new) for a band i was working in and since have decided to leave that playing situation. I really have no use for this board so I'd rather take a small hit and just unload it. it's...

I'm looking into setting up a more flexible headphone monitoring system for live tracking. I've got the direct outs free on my main board and thought I'd pick up a cheap line mixer, feed the some of the DO's (or the buss outs) to it and use aux sends off the extra mixer to feed a collection of headphone amps. That would let me put the headphone board out...
