I recently took over a small restaurant in Japan and I want to upgrade the sound system. Right now there are two ceiling speakers, which I think, are wired in series. I've never seen a setup like this before, so I don't know what to do with it. As you can see from the pictures, there are 3 wires, (they come out of the wall) which are attached to something...

Hi, my old receiver has the amp bypass plugs in the back so I was thinking of getting another amp and using the receiver as a preamp. It seems you get more bang for the buck with the pro audio pa type rack mount stuff. I have seen the Samson amps for under $200 with lots of power. Is this a good direction to look or should I stick to amps made for home audio?...

does anyone know how to open the case of an m-audio microtrack 24/96? I'd rather seek advice from someone who's done it than start damaging my microtrack by experimenting. It looks tricky. Thanks for any help. (ps: I want to try and change the battery myself)

Okay, I'm a newbie when it comes to speakers and that kinda stuff. As of a few days ago I had a fully working Logitech X-540 speaker system for my computer. Not the loudest in the dorm, but able to contend with them. Then my subwoofer went out. Logitech, being the great company that they are offered me a full replacement if I sent them the wired control...

Introducing an evolutionary new look in coffeemakers. The Cuisinart Brew Central Coffeemaker makes a bold statement with a brushed stainless steel finish and an elegant tech-industrial design. Programmable from start to finish, with a variable heater plate for temperature control, it's the ideal coffeemaker for today's demanding consumer. It even tells you...

In my "Best caps for Amplifier thread", I asked about filter caps and diodes. ESP and other sources have been edifying. I'm now stuck on a few more component choices and am strongly doubting the value of various $$$ components and hardware. (I'm using a Hafler 220 and 200 [trashed] and Musical Concepts PA-3D Signature kit to construct 2 monoblocks.) Binding...

I see that there are certain amp models, wire a computer to the amp, and play .mp3 files directly off the compters hard drive through the home stero system. Have a Harmon/Kardon3485 that doesn't have a PC input connection, is there a quality inexpensive device that will allow this type of connection... Full question is posted on this link: ww...

Why hasn't anyone come up with closed captioning for audio CDs for when you play them on the PC?

I'm in the habit of listening to podcasts during my daily commute. Since my ipod was stolen I've been on the look out for a decent, cost- effective cellphone/MP3 player. Maybe I'm really looking or a decent MP3 player that can also make phone calls :) I sure can use the advise of the group's resident digital affectionados on this one: Features I need: -...

(xposted from rec.audio.hi-end) Can anyone confirm that the bass filter should be by-passed when kabers are converted from passive to active (not just the mid-treble cross-over)? I presume it should, but I want to be 99% certain that this is "official" definition of Active before arguing the toss with someone! ( I have asked linn for authoritative...

"HD signal wreaks havoc with analog radio" "If you're having trouble lately pulling in a good signal from your favorite radio station, it's not just that your radio dates from Marconi's heyday. Radio signal interference has become a big problem in Metro Detroit since the advent of HD (high definition) broadcasting." * w w w .detnews . com /apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080131/OPINION03/... This is something thats bothered me for years- that is, the output of the "headphone" jack on my PC outputs at a volume far too great for headphones... requiring the volume settings to be moved about whenever I switch between headphones and speakers (amplified). The volume sliders have to be almost to zero for the sound to be at the peroper volume- the...
