Hello again. I'm still working on my tube testing project. I have been trying to determine the transconductance of the 6EJ7 tubes I have. Here is my setup: Plate and screen grid at 240 vdc. Heater at 6.3 vdc. Grid 3 tied to cathode. Control grid at -3 vdc tied to cathode through 10 k resistor. Plate current is reading normal and when I vary the grid...

I've posted a preliminary layout checking my top panel drill template in alt.binaries,schematics.electronic. Constructive (pun) comments welcome. Hmm, I suppose I could make the xFD7 heaters switchable between 12.6VAC (13V) and 6.3VAC but since it's going to a non technical person that's probably asking for a 'mistake' to be made.

Hi! For the next few posts a necessary, I will be asking some questions about the innards of the cj pv5 preamp. So I would appreciate help from anyone familiar with the unit. There is a bank of 4 blue 2.2 uf 400v caps in the power supply that supply plate voltage to the tubes. Are these caps polarized? I replaced them with auricaps of the same value...

From an amusingly idiotic ad on Audiogon: >>" Description I am selling my custom made tube amplifier that I bought on ebay. Below is the ad that ran on Ebay at the time when I purchased this amplifier. It is a fantastic amplifier. I have too many amps at home, in fact 6 amplifiers currently and I am downsizing, because I simply have too much. Paypal...

Here is an "LF Gain Stepping RC Network Calculator" to go with the "HF Gain Stepping RC Network Calculator" that I posted here about a month ago. This one calculates and plots the response of the type of Low Frequency Gain Stepping RC Network that is used in some amplifier designs to stabilize them at low frequencies when applying NFB. The calculator...

Hi RATs, Hope you enjoyed your Sunday afternoon as much as I did, working on a PP amp using 71A triodes for my office environment. I breadboarded one channel and a PS for testing purposes and it sounds pretty good to me. The PS is LCLCRC with 7Hy chokes and motor run caps for filtering. The amp uses transformer input with some Newcomb microphone...

Phil Spector played the studio, according to one of his band-leaders. His first disaster was "River Deep Mountain High", IIRC, in part because its complex arrangement and dynamic range were beyond the capabilities of car radios. When I heard these stories they seemed like revelations. Just listening to the Ronettes and it's plain there is a converse...
