I prviously posted about my $17.00 flea market find (Dynaco ST-35) and wanted you folks to know how pleased I am to finally hear what's been missing in my music. I bought a variac for $40 and brought her up slowly over the course of 5 hours or so. I had a sputtering tube so I replaced them with a newer quad from an older st 35 that tested stronger than...

Just to present something "off topic", I have a couple of shots of my Citation II TUBE AMPLIFER project. Wiring is finished. A prior owner cut a hole in the side panel. I noticed that the amp didn't have an On/Off switch so I retrofitted one there after enlarging the hole a tad. www .yaegeraudio, com /inside.jpg I've got a few minon steps to do before...

I have a pair of Stromberg-Carlson mono amps I want to rebuild for my home stereo system. I have the schematics, but, no other info. I do have the replacement tubes, but, not sure what type of caps to use. Also need to replace output transformers because they are set up for 78vac output. The model number on the amps are aph-1050. -- boomers...

The old RAT social policy was undermined by the strictly temporary return of the Magnequest Scum. So I have formulated a new caring, sharing RAT Social Policy to see us through the 21st Century: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; give a man a fully charged electric eel and can recharge his phone and call around to find a new sponsor." Andre...

For the record, it is Jon Yaeger, not me, who in the thread "RAT soclal policy" compares Henry "Porno" Pasternack to Idi Amin, who murdered his wife and stored her body parts in the fridge to eat on high days and holidays. I've never done more than accuse Porno Pas, on the evidence, of being immoral, lying scum, and a thief, and a pornographer, and a vicious...

To continue that dropped negative feedback thread, please find below a couple of self-test questions. It is well known, that plate resistance Ra (of a triode) equals Ra = mu/S, where: mu - amplification factor of the tube (triode); S - transconductance. Question 1: What will Ra be if the grid and the plate are AC coupled (e.g., via a 0.1uF capacitor)?...

http :// search.ebay, com /search/search.dll?from=R40& trksid=m37&satitle=voltohmyst&category0 The RCA VoltOhmyst is a usable shop classic that nicely complements the modern DMM for convenient and fast use where a meter movement is desired but the straight VOM loads the circuit too much and/or is easily slammed by high voltages by accident. These are...

Single ended OR push pull, that is. I think it would be fun to build an amp using a 6AS7 that could be run either SE or PP. VTL did this with a pair of 300Bs but that is a serious investment. I just want something to show SE vs PP sonics easily. Tango used to have the U-808s. Is there a current equivalent?

I saw a nice aluminum aftermarket oil pan for the big Allison automatic transmission sold for use behind the DuraMax diesel engine in pickups. It has a nice smooth bottom and ribbed sides and would make a particularly swank chassis for a tube amp. Substantially bigger than the pan on THM350/400s and A727 TFs, you could easily build a Mk III Dyna, a Mc 40...

The best bookshelf speaker at a reasonable price is made from a length of flue tile. Flue tile is a rectangular, rounded corner shaped channel made out of a medium refractory brick or ceramic product that resembles the red or orange common clay pot for plant use. It may be glazed and fired in a kiln or painted with standard urethane paint products or used...
