As the result of previous discussions, and helpful info supplied by RAT subscribers, I built a box to test cap leakage and also reform some NOS electrolytics that were unused but had been in storage for several years. If I wanted to share a platform between these two tubes for a 18TMB would it be feasible to wire the two PP circuits in parallel , then have a DPDT switch that would apply heaters to one or the other ? Without heaters .. would the related circuit essentially disappear ?

Balancing P-P O/P stages (long post!) Cathode self-bias has an inherent balancing problem (but as, we know, two resistors are much better than one!) With two resistors to either side of the balance pot, with the slider grounded, the individual cathode resistances to ground vary with balance pot setting. What were the results? Did you manage to get all the lams back in? Was there any audible hum? I took apart a power transformer from an old tube Tektronix scope and wound two secondaries with 13awg wire. Its for a *gasp* solid state amp. Theres still a small stack of lams left over that I can't get back in. The last few had to be tapped in with a hammer....
