Some of you fine people have enquired why I accused Arny of perhaps sipping too much Altar wine the other day. Well I think he is a little embarrassed because, *shock*, horror he has deleted his post from newsgroups. Oh poor Arny! Any way I saved a copy to my hard drive and it looks like I need to post the relevant excerpts so you can all see how...

Hello. I noticed that in most cases a capacitor or a RC circuit is connected across the primary of a tube OPT. It is apparently to compensate for the leakage inductance of the transformer. However, I am not sure how to correctly calculate this RC circuit. If I know my load impedance Rl, if I know output tube internal resistance Ra, if I know (measured)...

I finally cracked it - or rather found the text with an explanation I could understand. Basically, with shunt applied feedback it is currents that are summed/subtracted at the input. As the output is a voltage the stage is a transconductance amplifier so the closed loop gain is in the form of Vo/Ii which does turn out to be Ao/(1+ß.Ao) and ß is simply...

Just thought I'd mention there are a number of tube manuals/books on alt.binaries.e-book.technical Data manuals from RCA, Raytheon, Sylvania, Mullard, Western Electric, etc. RCA Theramin User and Service Manuals. A collection of tube amplifier schematics in "143 Tube Amplifier Schematics,' and more. The posting is a bit old, back in February, so depends...

One of the most common things people don't understand when trying to build an OPT for a single ended amp with one output device or a number of them in parallel is the determination of the air gap as well as other considerations. I'll try to make my logic flow about the issue as brief and easy for anyone to follow. It is applicable for any type of SE...

After reading up about tubes like the 316A or 368A they leave me with a few questions. Why are the filaments at such a low voltage with such a high current? 1.15v at 4.5 amps is pretty odd. A few tenths of an ohm contact resistance would really effect emission. The plate structures inside look very small for their rated dissipation. The 368A plate looks...
