Hi I need to build a power tube amp SE or PP with a 300 VDC power supply . I guess a 10-20 rms wats power amp will do. Does any one know about a suitable circuit for this ? Thnaks in advance EC

Here's a "philosophical" question that I could answer at least part of in a minute with an empirical test, but I want to see how people think about it. In the conventional single ended tube audio output stage, having a conventional audio output transformer the ends of whose primary is wired to B+ and the output tube plate, and the ends of whose secondary...

I'm restoring a Scott 130 preamplifier. I was hoping to be able to keep the original paper coupling caps, but all seem to have some degree of leakage. I removed a number of caps and tested each at 400 VDC (their rated voltage), in series with a 100 ohm 1 watt resistor. I measure across the resistor, to get a voltage value that corresponds to current. Round...

For the 3 people around the world who read my posts, I give some hints on what the effects of decent power supply filtering can do to THD/IMD in a PP triode amplifier. Yesterday in my last post I described a night of testing an SET845 amp and comparing the performance with a VAC tride PP amp which I have tinkered with to get better natural performance...

Tonight my customer came around for a couple of hours to listen to the amps he's buying from me. He brought a bundle of CDs and we started off eith the SE 845. No listening test means much unless you have a good standard Other Amp to compare, and in this case the OA was a VAC amp which I have been working on for a week to teach it how to be civilised,...

Hello. After "cool" cathodes of an Electro-Harmonix 12AT7, after glowing screen grid of a Sovtek EL84 I came across another weird phenomenon. When I power up a Philips Miniwatt 12AX7 (made in Australia) the tips of its heater filaments, the ends, sticking out from the bottom of the cathodes and going to the pins 4, 5 and 9, give out a flash of bright...

I have a VAC 7070 here for repairs, upgrades, and for instalation of active protection circuits. I have just about completed the circuit changes which included removal of output stage FB capacitors to "neutralise" the 300B input C, re-working of the values of RC used in the 6 way switchable NFB networks to give unconditional stability, including phase/gain...

Anyone with any military surplus US test equipment has probably seen the Keydick plug. The Keydick plug is a two pin male 110-120 plug with the third grounding pin externally mounted on a hinge so that one may use or not use it. It's called a Keydick plug because its invention is attributed to one Don Keydick. That's what the flip over prong looks like...

I've posted another DC heater schematic and this one is rather unusual in that it's was to get 12.6V from a 'wrong size' transformer. Basically, it charges the filter cap on an AC synchronous pulse basis. The same concept could be done with opamps but I implemented this one with discretes. In the other useful circuits section. * flipperho...

I have seen posts in which people from the US refer to "cheater plugs" I have a feeling they may have somnething to do with solving hum and ground problems. Can someone please enlighten me? Iain
