1987 cbr600, 20k mi. I've got a Clymer ('87-'89) and an online scan of a Honda ('90+) manual. Followed the instructions, disconnected cables, etc. There is a brace of 4 Keihin carbs. Each carb connects to one intake port via a rubber or plastic hose segment with a screw-clamp on the port end and another at the carb end. I've loosened all the screw-clamps,...

I have a friend who just got an R6 a little while ago. He has some problems now though. I gave a shot at some advice, but I am no expert or even really qualified to give him any advice. I was hoping some of you guys would have an idea that I could relay to him. His name is "Bob" to protect his identity ;) ----------------------- Bob: Hey, i finally...

1987 Honda CBR600 ("Hurricane"), 20k mi. Bike has been running reasonably well (tiny, tiny lo-speed miss) up until the ugly, Ugly Aug. heat wave, during which I didn't ride. Tried to start it about a week ago, it spluttered, idled on choke, died when I tried to rev it up. I could choke it up to maybe 3k rpm but it wouldn't take throttle at any choke...

Hi Albrecht, I was just googling some of your posts about charging systems. Very informative, thanks. In one of them (subject was "Gasket") you mentioned a motorcycle repair encyclopedia. Do you remember the title or author? thanks, p

My 1988 Virago has been having problems with the charging system recently. A few weeks ago I noticed that the battery fluid level was very low, which was my fault as it had been sitting there behind the rear cylinder for ~6 months and I forgot it should be checked (oops). When I did top it up it kept losing the charge over about a week so I thought...

Simple question for you old two smoke heads: How many miles/years @ roughly 5000 miles per year can I expect out of my low mileage (bought with 5700 miles and had the top end rebuilt shortly there after). I know the top end goes out at about two or three times the rate of the needle, roller and ball bearing low end which I figure might go as much as much...

Recently bought an old Virago on e-bay. In the month I've had it, it always started quickly and easily (usually without choke). I had only ridden it around town 1 - 2 miles at a time; a lot of stop and go all under 40mph. It always seemed to run fine. No indication of bogging, stalling or backfiring. I finally took it to get gas the other day. I filled...

Both the left and right turn signals on my Rebel stopped working. The bulbs are good. My thoughts are that the next most likely part to fail is the flasher. I have the service manual but it does not show its physical location. I'd rather not tear things apart looking for it and since it is no longer working I can listen for clicking. Can someone decribe...

Disk brakes. Squeeze the lever, fluid, slave cylinder mashes the pads against the rotor. That part I understand. What I don't understand is what happens when you release the lever. Cylinder on one side only. So when I release the pressure, the whole assembly has to move to one side while the cylinder retracts twice that amount. There ain't no obvious...

1983 Honda Shadow VT-500C I've been riding this bike for 22 years and changed the rear brake drums several times. This time, the brakes won't release. Stops ok, but when you let off the pedal, you can hear and feel a drag. Poking, lifting, jiggling the lever doesn't help. But when I stop completely, I hear a "click" as the shoe snaps back into place. I...

So I grew up riding BMW shaft drive, boxer engine, built like a rock and handles the same bikes and have until very recently had almost no experience with other bikes. So the other day I traded some old junk for some new junk in the form of a 1973 Cb350. Really it is a nice bike and the little woman will love it when I'm sure it is roadworthy This brings...
