July 8, 2007, from Lloyd Erlick, I've been idly poking about online today, and enetered 'erotic painting' into Google images. Not very erotic, but a very large jpg file of Robert Capa's famous dying soldier turned up -- attributed to Frank Capra! http :// www .arts.rpi.edu/~ruiz/Lessons/Photojournalism/Frank%20Capra.jpg regards, --le ________________________________ Lloyd...

What reasons can I give to someone just starting out in photography to convince them to choose conventional darkroom procedures over digital? My nephew is interested in photography as a hobby but digital is so dominant in the market that it is hard for me to persuade him to use film and a darkroom.

Anyone have any experience with HC 110 to reduce grain size in P3200? Or any other developers (other than T-Max & D-76...which are not really fine enough for my tastes..). TIA sam

Any hint what is causing the edges of the neg to be darkened? Example, three b&w pictures at the top of the page. http :// homepage.ntlworld, com /peter.chant/gallery/Iceland/ It's not a light leak as the darkening only occurs on exposed areas, not between them. Details: FP4+ exposed at 80ASA 10.30 min in Rodinol 1:50 at 20 degC Agitated 10 sec...

Has anyone had any experience with FSA toning of prints or negatives? According to Dr. Rudman, "When FSA toner redevelops the halides that have been regenerated in the bleaching stage, it does so to a different form, producing so-coalled 'colloidal' silver, consisteing of very small particles of different sizes and shapes." [The Photographer's Toning Book,...

hi ng, I ´ve a question regarding the understanding of the nature of grain in photographic film. As I understand it what´s normally called "grain" is the perceived clumping of the silver particles through the depth of the emulsion. But the size of those silver-halide crystals is between 0,2 and 2,0 µm and grain is said to be between 10 to 30 µm,...

I am seeking comments from the newsgroup about a "new/different" idea that I have for reversal processing of b/w film. I thought of this method since I am hesitant to use potassium dichromate (I have a KG of this stuff unused for past 7 years), or potassium permanganate(sp?) and acids. Here are the steps: 1. Expose and develop film 2. Wash the film...

Well, I haven't been here in a few years. Hopefully, the signal-to- noise ratio has improved. It's nice to see posts from some familier people. I spent the last couple days shooting infrared in 4x5 and 120 and developing in Pyrocat. Regards, Peter De Smidt www .desmidt, net

June 25, 2007, from Lloyd Erlick, Last year I got some Glycin and made a lot of prints using the Edwal 102 print developer formula. I substituted potassium sulfite for the sodium salt in the original formula. Here it is: ------------------------------------------ Edwal 102 — Glycin-Only Print Developer, partial-Potassium version, Working Solution Water...
