Could intravitreal injections of angiopoietin-1 or AcSKDP -- * bloodjournal.hematologylibrary.org/cgi/reprint/101/8/3014.pdf-- be a possible treatment for ROP? Since ROP is caused presumably by the iatrogenically high oxygen levels given to premature babies causing the angiogenesis system in the eyes to think "the retina's oxygenated enough, no need...

Before my retirement, I was a consultant to the ophthalmic and medical laser industries for over 30 years. Since retiring in December 2005, I have put a lot of my published writings online in my Web Journal. Just before retiring, I became interested in a new drug treatment for age-related macular degeneration. It was called Avastin, and its use stopped...

They all seem to offer IR lamps to flood the room with IR so that the TV camera can observe the child in total blackness. Have there been any articles regarding the eyesight safety implications...

I was reading a clinical trial "A randomized trial of atropine vs. patching for treatment of moderate amblyopia in children", in the March 2002 issue of Archives of Ophthalmology. My optometrist, Dr Ryan, says that I need to be patched, but the study says that atropine is equally effective. My prescription in my amblyopic eye is -11.25 -2.50x178, SER of...

Hi I wear glasses all the time for short sightnedness, my last pair(s) came from specsavers about 7 years ago. I can't remember which 2 of the 3 pairs I still have that I got back then, but now I only use one of the cheap pairs and they are getting worn. One of the more expensive set of frames I bought at the time are made by Fila after about a...

My brother is 65 and has reached the point of needing cataract surgery. He is told he has severe astigmatism in his right eye, and moderate astigmatism in the left. I don't know what this means in terms of diopters - he doesn't have his prescription. His understanding from talking to his doctor, is his left eye is dominant at distance, and his right...

Why don't ophthalmologists and optometrists use the Landolt C chart, instead of the Snellen chart? It's harder to cheat w/ the Landolt C.

My vision is deteriorating. Reading off of a computer display can help but often adds problems. Is there software available that avoids some of the problems I list below without requiring custom handling. In my case use Apple's Safari and Mail. 1. Very small type. 2. Low contrast fonts: Gray on gray or light blue on white. Bill
