Mexican Riviera in March

Mexican Riviera in March

Hi all,

I think our window for vacation this spring will be right up against spring
break, in the Mar 9-23 timeframe. Is it reasonable for us to hope to find a
place that won't be overrun with partying kids if we go either north or
south of Cancun? Our interests are primarily a nice beach and warm water,
maybe some day tours, and certainly a lot of fresh seafood. Nightlife is
not on our list. and we'd most likely not enjoy Cancun.

That said, are there any reasonably priced beachfront hotels WITHOUT an
all-inclusive requirement in the Playa del Carmen or Tulum areas? How about
cottage rentals?

Are there any recommendations for towns North of Cancun? Sorry for the lack
of specifics here, but this idea just came to me today, so I'm grasping
around.

Keith

Hi k -
As long as you're casting a wide net, you might consider Holbox. I haven't
been myself, but would like to some day. And I'll bet you would see zero
springbreakers there.

Wow, thanks for that Mike. I'd actually heard the name somewhere, but never
realized it was even in Mexico. It's gone right to the top of my list.

Same for Isla Mujeres, half an hour from Cancun by ferry. Beautiful,
very lightly developed, a small carless town, and no Girls Gone Wild!

I've never been there that time of year, but outside of Cancun and
Playa del Carmen it should be pretty laid back--busy, but laid back.

There are lots of places in the area that aren't all inclusive. Tulum
has a number of nice small hotels right on the beach. It would put you at
the entrance to the Sian Ka'an bioreserve, but other than the beach, the
bio-reserve and the ruins there's not a lot there for tourists. For
something a bit more centrally located I'd look at Akumal. Another favorite
of mine is Paamul. It's mostly an RV park but they have some nice rooms and
cabanas right on a pleasant little cove. The only time it gets noisy there
is on karaoke night.

Thanks TB - I'll look into them. It looks like we won't be going during
those weeks. I didn't realize that it includes Easter and the Holy week.
Those nice little places that are $600/wk before and after are more than
double during that period. Combine that with spring break and I think we'll
put Mexico off until fall.

These all sound like nice ideas, and I'm keeping a list.
